ISSAN has taken stops to cheer-up beleaguered urban motorists.
The Micra Activ supermini has
extra equipment over the more standard Initia variant that is not reflected in the price, so you can put the money saved towards that place in the country. The Activ is available with a
choice of three engines - 1.2 and 1.4-litre petrol units, plus a l.odCi diesel. The 1.2-litre three-door costs .£8,645. Moving up to the 1.4-litre petrol
will add £300 or £1,100 for the diesel. An extra two doors will add £050. The Activ takes the flagship
Micra Sport’s well specified equip ment level, differing only in the substitution of 15 in. alloys for the

Sport’s lGin ones. Outside, the Activ has deep sport bumpers and spoilers. Inside, there is a leather- rimmed steering wheel with con trols for the drive computer and a six-speaker CD/radio, air condi tioning, electric door mirrors and windows, four airbags, central lock ing with anti-hijack feature, plus some special Micra easy-life fea tures, such as “friendly lighting” (to see you home on dark nights), battery save and a bag hook. Perhaps the most memorable fea
ture is the car’s funky red-lined gloveboxm which at 13 litres, could take an entire sock draw. The glovebox is just part of a no- cost interior trim option available

on the Activ and, says Nissan, takes its inspiration from London’s fashionland. Hence the sportswear derived red and grey two-tone upholstery. But not everyone is so extrovert
and a charcoal option, with black lined glovebox, borrowed from the Micra Sport, is also available. Eight different exterior colours
are offered. These can be teamed with either of the interior options. Go for the funky red one with matching glovobox lining, and you will not want to keep a lid on it. The 1.2-litre lGv petrol unit is
pleasant for zipping around town in. I t cruises quietly with the engine note rising at higher revs where there is also some brisk-feel ing acceleration - brisker, in fact, than the rather pedestrian 13.9 secs

0-G0 m.p.h. time suggests. Fuel economy is a vital factor with small engined superminis and the 1.2-litre Micra keeps its end up well with a 48 m.p.g. average and a claimed 38 m.p.g. return for the kind of start- stop urban motoring that Activ target buyers are likely to partake of.
The Micra is a strong supermini
product and the Activ models sup plement those solid foundations with high equipment levels and a low price. There is nothing really to make
these models any more adept in urban conditions than normal Micras but at least the tight pricing and jazzy equipment will give city- based owners something nice to think about next time they hit a horrendous traffic jam.

to its range, offering a high specification and extra style. Its blue theme is emphasised in Lagoon Blue metallic paint, carpet mats and blue surrounds for the air vents and instrument panel.
