Unbeaten run ends
Dog Inn .....................0 Griffin’s Head
.......3 '■f-
DOG Inn's eight-match unbeaten run came to an end as they went down to three early Griffin’s Head goals at Wilson's on Sunday. The Whalley side looked
the brighter team in the opening 10 minutes, only to fall behind after failing to
. deal with a corner. A free header, also from a
corner, allowed Griffin’s Head to double the lead four minutes later, and the Accrington side made the points safe mth a third goal just before the 20-minute mark. Although they kept their
opponents at bay for the remaining 70 minutes. Dog never really looked like get ting on the scoresheet. The two teams will meet
again in the Terry Catter- mole Cup semi-final on March 25 th, and Dog man ager Simon Kerins knows a marked improvement is--
- necessary if his side is to reach the final at Accring ton Stanley: "This was easi-
_ly pur most disappointing performance of the season. “We are normally one of ‘
the best teams around where comebacks are con cerned, but top many peo ple seemed resigned to their fate and so we went down
«.\vith barely a whimper. "We cannot afford a
repeat performance in the cup semi-final, nor in our upcoming league matches."

AFTER two weeks without a game
'Clitheroe are raring to go
against.in-form out fits Colwyn Bay and Harrogate Railway according to co-manag
er Neil Reynolds. The Blues enjoy two
games at home this week, starting with their Welsh visitors on Saturday fol lowed by the North York shire side bn Tuesday night.
■ Both sides have hit a rich vein of results of late, Col- \vyn haven't dropped points since a change in manage ment and Harrogate struck five past Rossendale United at Dark Lane on Saturday. But Reynolds is glad to
be playing them now on home soil rather than later, given the recent three-game unbeaten run they've had at Shawbridge and last week's postponed fixture at Shep- shed Dynamo. He said: "They're two
massive games that I'm just glad we're playing at home. Col\vyn Bay are an in-form side at the moment and ■ since Gary Finley took over last month they've hardly dropped points. "They're a big physical
side and they're coming to us top of the form league. , "And then Harrogate on Tuesday, who had some win
/ ■
in the 5-1 win over Warring ton for Saturday as striker Chris Ward still looks to be ' another week or so away with his rib injury. However, after the per
formances seen in that game he has no complaints, he believes in a strong bench but he and Pete Smith may just swap it
■ around a bit. He added: "I'm hopeful
Chris -will be back next Sat urday but I will have the same 14 lads that played at Warrington. The bench may change but I can't
■ leave out any of the lads that have turned in per formances. "The bench has been key
to our success and I don't want to weaken it. Anthony Daniels just sums up that

over at Rossendale on Sat urday. To beat Derek Egan's men 5-1 is a great result. "Two tough fixtures, but
with three home wins on the spin I'm glad we're playing them now after the form we've enjoyed rather than later in the season." Last Saturday's trip to
Leicestershire didn't even hit the road despite every other team in the league getting a game. Apparently Shepshed suffered heavy rain overnight and the match was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, the
Clitheroe management have their doubts. ' Reynolds said: "I was
absolutely gutted. It was a farce that we didn't play as I couldn't believe, the pitch wasn't playable. "I talked to Bridlington's
Ash Berry after they played them on it in midweek and it was fine, so you can read into tha t what you like. They were carrying injuries after that game and it might have rained, but to be the only game called off in the league was unusual." Reynolds expects to call upon the same 14 players as
. strength for me to see that kind of quality come on and make a difference, but that doesn't mean he is'there to stay. It's a headache but it's a great position to be in." But one thing is for sure
the competition for places is turning in a full house of players on training nights, and Reynolds and Smith won't stand for anything less. "With no game we've
been training Tuesday, Thursday, and at the JJB on Saturday which was fol lowed by a players social night afterwards. "We don't give the lads
nights off. That's been the case right through from the start as when we started
five or six would be missing. "We said if you don't
train then you don't play and I have to commend them as everyone has stuck to that principle and want ed to be involved. "They get paid to play
football and if they are going to commit to Clitheroe Football Club then they've got to play Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and I'm proud to say to a man they've done that."
Clitheroe against Colwyn
Bay kicks-off at 3 p.rti. at Shawbridge on Saturday. Tuesday’s game against Harrogate starts at 7-45 p.m.

puffed, but it wasn't until just before the break that
.trickery from Musgrove opened up the heart of the Rolls defence to slot home a neat finish, which the home crowd cheered with vigour. The second half was all
Rolls'pressure as they pushed on looking for the equaliser, and it should have come through Tully who missed a brace of clear cut chances to level. But it was Chatburn
again, through Musgrove, who added another when the Rolls centre-half com pletely misjudged a back pass to his stranded keeper. Rolls grabbed a consola
tion late on, which gave them hope, but it proved short lived as super sub Lakin blasted home from distance to leave the keeper flat-footed and in admira tion at the strike.
