20 Clitheroe Advertiser STimes, Thursday, February 22nd, 2007 isht-turn Jli

A JUNCTION on the Ciitheroe by-pass is to get a permanent new look. The revised layout introduced at the A59/Pendle

Road junction is to stay unchanged. Traffic travelling along the by-pass towards

Ciitheroe will be permanently prevented from turning right into Pendle Road. Members of the Lancashire Local - Ribble Valley

committee decided that the temporary alterations should remain. Two years ago vehicles journeying to Ciitheroe

along the A59 were stopped from turning right at the Pendle Road/Sabden Road junction and U-turns through the central reservation were also banned. Committee members were told that under the Local

Safety Scheme for the site kerbed builds-outs would be used to stop traffic turning right, and the right turn lane which is currently hatched and coned off will become part of the central reservation.

Enhanced traffic signs and two interactive warning

signs would also be introduced. Some committee members expressed concerns

about traffic being re-directed through the town cen tre a,nd about the speed of vehicles travelling along the length of road. But they were told after considering all the avail

able data officials had concluded that the main haz ard on the stretch of road was vehicles making right turns. They were also informed that installing a round

about was not an economically viable solution. Once in place, the measures would be monitored for

three years and amendments made in the future if appropriate.

The committee approved the safety scheme as set

out, but resolved that the warning signs be set to acti vate at' 40 m.p.h. rather than the recommended 50 m.p.h.

in honour of Cris

FRIENDS and members of Lee Carter and its health and fitness team have raised £3,009 in memory of their much-loved former propri etor, Cris Lee. Cris died suddenly last

year of a bleed th a t occurred within the brain. He spent most of the final

week of his life in Hope Hospital, where the staff in the ICU ward were a huge support to his wife, Julie, and close family and friends. People turned out in force

for a special 10km run in August last year and made £3,609 towards raising funds for new equipment within the ICU unit at the Manchester Hospital as a gesture of thanks for the support given. A special children’s 5km

was also held. Mrs Pat Worswick, map-

ager at the fitness club, said: “We wanted to do some thing in memory of Cris. “We would like to thank

everyone that was involved in the sponsored run/walk.’’ Our picture shows Julie

Lee and three-year-old Jay Lee, presented with the cheque by Vicky Carter, Annabella Towler and Pat, who all work a t the health studio. (B2/901074)

Better care planned for diabetes

AT the meeting of the Ribble Val ley Diabetic Group, Dr Alan Crowther spoke about “Delivering Care Better”. He reported that digital retinal

screening was going ahead well and while there had been no new treatments developed, most patients were now being given a

statin and an asprin which were improving their control of dia betes. He also said th a t meeting

patient needs was an important issue for the NHS and practice- based commissioning by the PCT was now being implemented and looking to the future care Clinical

Assessment Treatment and Sup port was about to come into force. His talk was preceded by a short

AGM when Mr Godon Dixon, Mr Doug Stewart, Mrs Ann Barratt were elected chairman, treasurer and secretary respectively and the committee re-elected en bloc. All to serve for a further 12 months.
