EUROPEAN Wild Water champion Jonny Schofield continued to raise his profile in the K2 kayak double by winning the 500m event a t the regatta in Nottingham over the weekend. Alongside junior Euro
pean finalist Ben Brown, the results from the selec tion event determined the team selection for the Senior European Cham pionships this month. The 21-year-old from
Sawley has successfully switched from Wild Water Racing to the Olympic discipline of flat- water racing. His talent was proven
on Sunday in a tight race, with Ed McKeever and Ed Cox, Ben Farrell and
Paul Wycherley all con tending for honours in perfect racing conditions. Brown and Schofield
took the initiative from the start of the race, while Cox and McKeever did not have the best of starts. Farrell and Wycherley
came through later in the race, but Brown and Schofield proved they had the s tren gth as they saluted the winner’s flag in a time of 1.33.9. Wycherely and Farrell
also performed well at the weekend’s event by win ning the K2 1000m on Saturday, narrowly beat ing Schofield and Brown.
