The styling is a good deal less introverted these days, with a redesigned front end that includes design elements from the S-MAX - most notably, the lower trapezoid front grille, a redesigned upper grille, headlights and tail lamps. remains the ace in the C-MAX hole. A 40-20-40 “tip and tumble” rear seat secs the centre section flip rearwards into the luggage compartment, leav ing the remaining two seats to slide diagonally along a runner towards the centre of the car, giving unprecedent ed levels of space for four.
Behind The Wheel The fascia design of the C-MAX
reflects the exterior lines in its calm maturity. The riot of bisecting lines, angles and arcs that the Focus intro duced have been replaced by a quietly styled dashboard with classy Sony branded stereo equipment taking pride of place.
Six basic engines are offered, the
range split between three petrols and three diesels. The 90 b.h.p. 1.6-litre diesel unit is a development of the Fiesta’s 1.4TDCi common-rail power- plant, plus there is a 115 b.h.p. 1.8- litre Duratorq TDCi unit. Pick of the range has to be the 135 b.h.p. 2.0-litre TDCi engine. Backed up by a six- speed gearshift, this has proved to be the engine most able to take the fight to Renault, and Vauxhall. Petrol buyers are catered for with
100 b.h.p. 1.6-litre 16v, 125 b.h.p. 1.8- litre and 145 b.h.p. 2.0-litre options. Pius there is the option on the diesels of an environmentally-friendly Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

Value for Money On-the-road prices range from
£12,995 to £19,045, with prices gen erally around £750 over and above a Focus hatchback. You will find the C- MAX cheap to run: there are major components designed to require mini mal or even no maintenance. The result is low insurance groupings and whole life costs estimated to be £700 - £1,000 less than immediate rivals.
Could I live with one? The Ford C-MAX has to be one of
the easiest cars to live with. Pleasant to drive, pleasant to look at and with a benign image it’s overwhelmingly nice.

:i the former Mayor of Clitheroe. | Coun. Allan Knox, while he was still the town’s first citizen, presented cheques totalling £1,700 to five organisations and
one individual. Recipients of windfalls from the Mayor’s Wel fare Fund were Epilepsy Action and Life Education Centres, who each received £500, Bowland Pennine Rescue, Childlinc North West and the North West Air Ambulance, who were each
