Mellor, some 96 villages entered the pres tigious competition and, although Read and Sabden missed out on the main prizes, they both performed well in the certificate of merit categories. Sabden came out winner in the indus-
trial/commercial building category with Specialist Auto Services scooping the top prize and the village toilets were also
deemed the best in Lancashire. The village’s Deli-cious shop was high
ly commended in the shop/filling station category as was the crown green bowling club, losing out to Whitechapel Bowling Club in the bowling green section. Read won in the notice board category
for the parish council’s notice board in Jubilee Street while Read Cricket Club was also judged to have the best cricket
field. The presentation of awards ceremony
will be at Stanley House Hotel, Mellor, on Sunday, October 14th, at 2r30 p.m.
