listed students to the post after writing an article about his Gold Final Expedition for his Duke of Edinburgh Award. The third person to win The
Tim Procter Memorial Shield Award, which was launched in 2004, Scott, who lives in Blackburn, is currently studj'- ing for A-levels in English Lit erature, French, Theatre Stud ies and Religious Studies. Tim’s sons, Ian and James,
told the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times that the articles submitted to them for their consideration for the prize were all very good and easily reached the high standards of previous years. However, Scott’s article stood out due to the use of humour and the way he made light of his own expe riences to entertain the reader. Ian said: “Our father was
always keen to encourage and support younger people, he was never happier than when
he was taking the ‘micky’ out of himself for the amusement of others and we had no doubt tha t our father would have been very impressed by Scott’s article. “We wish Scott well with his
future studies and we wish to thank all the staff of the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times for the work that they do with young people. Our father valued the young and understood the importance of education and opportunity. He would be very proud of this annual competition in his name." A popular and much
respected member of the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times’ team Tim, through his role as work experience co ordinator, inspired hundreds of budding young journalists. Also a freelance photogra
pher, Tim was always willing to pass on his intimate knowl edge of the job and enjoyed giving talks to local schools about a career in journalism. The Tim Procter Memorial
Shield Award is co-ordinated by reporter Julie Magee and held annually with this news paper’s work experience stu dents invited to research and write an article on a topic of their choice. Our picture shows from the

They had Spring in their step
A TRADITIONAL start to the merry month of May was enjoyed by pupils at Gisburn Primary School.
They weaved around the may- pole on Tuesday to mark May Day, reviving time-honoured dances once performed across the country but now seen less and less.
Celebrating the end of winter, the youngsters certainly had a “Spring in their step” and their efforts were rewarded with glo rious weather. (A010507/6)
