POLICE arrested two company bosses from Clitheroe in a dawn raid on a remote farmhouse - in order to raise money for a local charity. Volunteer “criminals”
Castle Cement general manager Gareth Price and Hendrick Koornhofi site manager a t Johnson Matthey Catalysts, were dragged handcuffed into a police van. The arrests were made as
part of “Jailbreak”, an ini-; tiative to raise funds for the' East Lancashire Hospice. Mr Price and Mr Kobm-
hof along with several other high profile figures will appear a t “court” charged with aiding and abetting criminals next month when
“m agistrates” will throw them into jail. With only a “cell” phone
and pledge sheet a t their disposal, the detainees will have to secure their release by raising a minimum of £500 m “bail” each. Jailings will take place on
Saturday, July 15th, with the “criminals” discovering at 3 p.m. if they have raised enough money for th e “m a g is tra te s ” to g ran t them
bail.Th e top fund raiser will be presented with a magnum of Champagne. Speaking on behalf of
Castle Cement, Mr Price, who has been specifically charged with “supplying cement used in the con struction of the fourth lane of the M6, which two noto-
•rious bank robbers used as their getaway route”, said: “We are delighted to be
involved in what is a fun event, but one which will hopefully raise a lot of money for what is a serious and very worthwhile cause.” The hospice is the maiii
specialist palliative care centre serving the commu nities of Blackburn, Dar- wen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley. I t cares for people with cancer and other life threatening ill nesses, providing in patients and day care, hos pice a t home, along with bereavement and chaplain cy support. Each year, i t has to ra i^
£660,000 to cover running costs. Anyone wanting to help
the two local jailbirds break out of their cells can call The Appeals Office on 01254 660900.
