Hicks Health & Fitness Club inside Ciitheroe Cricket Ground on Chatbum Road, has recently completed a major refurbishment to the Fitness Suite. This being the second makeover in the last two years brings the Club up to. date, with all the latest fitness equipment and technology available in today’s leisure market. Hicks is proud to be the first leisure club in the country to install the StarTrae Human Sport equipment. This distinctive line is so simple, so intuitive and so natural, it feels as if it was custom-built for each and every user. It gives a more advanced workout and is ideal for sports specific training and injury rehabilitation. A new simpler range, perfect for the beginner, has also been introduced to the fitness suite. The ‘Max Raek’ quite rightly commands central position in the weights area and users are sure to be amazed by its capabilities and smoothness.

The ever-popular free weights area has been expanded again with even more dumbbells ranging from l-45kg and more workstations.

New cardiovascular equipment has also been introduced to the gym, completing the overall image with a separate Cardio Suite with various music channels attached to each piece and compatible with the new flat screen televisions.

Sun smiles on pupils’ walk

AUTUMN sunshine was an added bonus when 1,100 pupils and staff from St Augustine’s RC High School, Billington, se t out on th e ir annual sponsored walk. The two-hour trek followed a circular

route through Billington and Whalley to raise money for various projects, including stage lighting for the school hall and the purchase of a new minibus. The job of the school prefects, pic

tured here, was to ensure that the route was left litter free for other ramblers to enjoy. Fortunately the weather was bril

liant and many passers-by commented to teachers on the excellent behaviour of the pupils, (s)

of the Pennine Way before branching off and following the stream to the picturesque waterfall of Janet's Foss which, according to one the group was named after the Queen of the Fairies. The route then crossed the fellside alongside dry stone walls to reach the road coming north out of Malham village. After about a mile, the group branched off to have a good view of Malham Tam and had lunch out of the \vind near the tarn. The dry valley below this point now

became the route and it soon became easy to see how this had been the course of a mighty river a t the end of the Ice Age which would have cascaded over Malham Cove as a waterfall larger than Niagara.
