R im in g to n ...................1 RIMINGTON left it late to grab the winner. Both sides played con

structive passing football, and the visitors created the . first real chance when O'Neill's cross was headed against the bar by Coulter. He then turned provider

to find Penman in the area but the big centre forward shot narrowly over. The villagers were not

getting it all their own way, and they had Kershaw to thank as he bravely saved

at the feet of the on-rush ing forward. The Rimington keeper

then produced a marvel lous save, tipping the ball on to the post when he appeared .to be beaten in the flight of the shot. Rimington had even

more possession in the sec ond half, but struggled to find the net. O'Neill had a shot which

just missed, and Penman curled a free kick against the post and another effort looked to be creeping in until it was tipped around

the post for a comer. O'Neill's corners were a

constant threat, and final ly Jordan Walmsley head ed one in off the underside of the bar from an acute angle. On Saturday, Rimington face a tough fixture

against Enfield. Rimington Reserves . .8 BGSOB Reserves.........2 FIVE goals from Matt Garner - including a hat- trick in the first seven min utes - saw Rimington com plete their first double of the season.

I t took just 17 seconds

for goal-grabbing Garner to score with a delicate chip over the keeper, and minutes later he added his second with another pre cise lob, before completing his treble with a back post header from a Gari Haslam cross. The Old Boys had pulled

one back at 2-0, and added a second at 3-1. But Gamer then netted

his fourth to make it 4-2. Mark, Leach completed

the half with a thunderous shot into the roof of the net

for his sixth of the season. Rimington started the

second half as they did the first, and Haslam latched on to a throughball after 33 seconds to calmly slot past the keeper. Ben Threlfall added

another goal in similar fashion, and Garner com pleted the goal fest with a free kick frpm the edge of the box for his 20th of the season. Rimington are now

ready for their toughest test of the season a t Enfield on Saturday.

Lions prevail Stunning show

Oxenhope Reserves................... 1 Clitheroe Lions .......................4 THE Lions prevailed in this top of the table clash with an impressive performance. Early pressure from the home

side, who were making the most of shooting downhill, resulted in them taking a 1-0 lead with a for tuitous cross-shot. Not disheartened though, the

Clitheroe side rallied, with Gaugh- an and James Clegg dominating in central midfield. The equaliser came from an

Avci header after a long throw from Callaghan. Shortly after, the Lions found

ff

themselves 3-1 up with a quality turn and shot from Pinard, and a neat Holgate finish. Leading 3-1 at half-time, and

with the advantage of facing downhill, the Lions defensive line, led by the excellent Paul Clegg, ensured the victory was never in doubt. After wasting numerous

chances, a long Mashiter kick resulted in a defensive mix up which Holgate capitalised on for his second. With two cup games next on the

agenda, this 4-1 win leaves the Lions’ league campaign with a solid base to build on.

Impressive win

Rock Rovers.................1 Hurst G reen................3

HURST Green enjoyed an impressive win against the President’s Cup holders. The locals came under

early pressure and Rock Rovers took the lead on 10 minutes following a goal mouth scramble. However, this galvanised

the visitors, and they began to get a foothold in the game. The equaliser arrived

after 30 minutes when Tip ton’s excellent left wing cross was converted with style by Dan Walker. The second period saw

Hurst Green gain more control of the game, with Mark Young going close to scoring on four occasions. His corner was headed

off the line, and he then saw his goalbound shot

blocked, before he hit the inside of a post from a free kick, and brought a fine save from the keeper from fully 35 yards. When the visitors did

take the lead just after the hour, it came in fortuitous fashion following a long throw from Danny Taylor, which was flicked on by Barton and diverted into his own net by a defender. Hurst Green increased

their lead when Simpson finished very well with a left foot strike. The home side contin

ued to compete well and forced Green keeper Hold en into a superb reaction save, and hit a post with a last-minute penalty. On Saturday, Hurst

C h a tburn ................................ 6 Grassington............................0 A STUNNING all-round per formance from Musgrove helped Chatbum terrorise a strong Grass ington defence from first whistle to last on Saturday. The local player was at the

heart of all the good play the vil lagers produced, and deserved his man-of-the-match award. Chatburn, high on confidence

following back to back wins, took the game by the scruff, and as they passed and moved the ball around at ease, chances came and went until Hibbert netted at the back post from a pin-point ball

Globe Bullough............0 Dog Inn .......................1 DOG INN returned to winning ways in the Harry Dewhurst Memorial League on Sunday. The Whalley side domi

nated the first half and, but for missed chances, inspired goalkeeping and the woodwork, would have held a comfortable lead at the interval. In the event, the match

game came on the hour, Jamie Enefer calmly net ting from the penalty spot for his third goal of the sea son. This win lifts the Whal

Chipping........................3 Lostock St Gerard’s . . ,1.

CHIPPING ended Lostock’s 100% record with a superb display in the Guildhall Cup. Lostock started the bet

ter, and took the lead after quarter of an hom through a superb free kick from Chris Hornby, who plays for Chipping in the sum mer league. But man-of-the-match

Chris Leighton and Stew art Malley took a grip of the midfield, and Chipping grabbed a deserved equaliser before the break from Danny Austin, after intricate, one-touch pass ing from Oily Hayhurst and Oily Johnson.

The villagers began the

second half in confident mood and were quickly in front with a penalty from prolific marksman Steve Proctor after Hayhurst’s shot was handled. And a classic passing

move allowed Hayhurst to score a third to seal the win, lifting the ball over the keeper from Proctor’s delightful ball. The victory was soured

slightly by the harsh dis missal of Malley for a sec ond caution, but Chipping will be looking to continue in this manner when they travel to face Heath Chamock in the league on Saturday (kick-off 2-30 p.m.).

Clilheroe RUFC..........6 Fylde Saracens.......... 23

CLITHEROE suffered crushing and painful dis appointment a t Little- moor on Saturday as they went down by three tries in a stop-start game. Facing a heavyweight

pack intent on slowing the game down to a crawl at every opportunity it was not thre high tempo game the locals would have pre ferred. However, Clitheroe started brightly enough

and went into a deserved lead, through a penalty. The sides then

exchanged penalties, but then afte r some intense pressure, Fylde drove over from a line out, just before the break, to give them a slender half-time lead. Still confident at the

interval, Clitheroe went searching for the points. However, things went

from bad to worse, to the ridiculous in the space of 15 minutes. First the Fylde fly half

dummied his way through a static Clitheroe defence to score an easy try. Then, with Clitheroe

defending on their own line, a Fylde forward cyni cally punched his opposite number to the ground. The referee missed the

offence, or surely an early bath would have been the order of the day. After some sort of order

was restored, and to add insult to injury, Clitheroe's clearance kick missed touch and Fylde spread

the ball quickly to the other wing for their final try.

A tricky trip to Carn-

forth on Saturday becomes quite significant after this result, while the Cavaliers entertain Ormskirk at Lit- tlemoor, kick-off 3 p.m. ■ CLITHEROE Bucca

neers Under 15s came out with their heads held high after their first match of the season against Ald- winians - one of Lan cashire's best performing teams.

Despite it being a com

fortable win, in terms of tries to the Manchester favourites, the game was a more even battle. Clitheroe kept on going

against their medal-win ning opponents’ non-stop attacking barrage. This was exemplified by

the glorious try-saving tackle in front of the line by Joe McArdle, when an Aldwinian player's impres sive run had outstripped the rest of the field. The team was led by the
