minute with a delectable 20-yard strike to put the Blues ahead. With the outside of his

lowing exceptional strikes by David Dempsey and Owen Roberts, they looked to have this mental battle tied up against the Uni- Bond First Division's base ment side. But while Bridlington's

Rugby Union team had fin ished their 80 minute game in the ground next door, Clitheroe were left to rue yet more refereeing misery by receiving two red cards and conceding two Kevin

the box. The away side drew level

soon after, when a shot was spilled by keeper Darren Jackson allowing the advancing striker to tap in from close range. Walker made i t a brace

before half-time, shrugging off a strong challenge before beating the keeper. In the second half it was

Grindleton who started the brighter, with constant pressure imposed on the

.Trawden defence. Martin Cowey made it three when a mix-up in the Trawden defence allowed the winger to strike the ball home. The game was then put

out of reach when winger Martin Dobson went on a mazy run down the left, before launching a right- foot strike in to the top right comer. However, Trawden did

not go down without a fight and pulled one back almost immediately to make the

game 4-2. Saturday’s victory was

preceded by a fund-raising event for both the village football and cricket clubs. Over £1,500 was raised

found the head of Dean only to narrowly go wide. But Roberts made no

mistake with his direct free kick on the half-hour as he rifled a rocket shot through the Bridlington wall for the Blues' second of the after

noon. Clitheroe were in com

mand, back a t their own league level, but they had a scare when a ball forward by Town's Martin Barnes ran free under the foot of Steve Hussey to home strik er Smith. Thankfully for the Blues,

the Bridlington man's 41st minute shot cannoned off the upright and away to safety. And James Dean should

have p u t the side three goals up, only to have his effort curiously ruled out for off-side by the linesman. In the second half

possession.

Dempsey played in another one-two with Dean only to be smothered out by the keeper. And Clitheroe's Paul

Horridge had to be on hand to tip over a Drew McCoubrey effort. However, the tide turned

against the Blues, perhaps coincidently with the sub stitution of Ross Bain for Dempsey, with Simon Gar ner moving from the centre of defence to the left of mid- field. The whole balance of the

team changed and the locals were issued a stark warning 15 minutes from

the end. Bain let slip an easy

clearance and Horridge had to come out of his area and handle the ball to make up for the mistake. The referee didn't send off the shot stopper but he later made up for his lenient decision. Seven minutes later the

Sweet revenge for the league leaders!

Rimington....................... 3 score his maiden first team

Langho.............................. 0 LEAGUE-leaders Riming ton gained revenge for their league defeat a t Langho thanks to three second half goals. The home side were slow

to get going but when Coul ter reached the bye-line and pulled the ball to Rick Whalley it seemed easy to score but the midfielder’s effort balloon over the bar Shortly after Paul Keigh

ley made a great run into the area but again, the shot flew over. Alan Sayle replaced the

unwell Terry Nelson and the home side looked much more dominant but even so, Langho had a couple of good opportunities to score. In the second half, a fine

move involving Walmsley and Tom O’Neill saw the winger’s cross parried by the keeper when tmder pres sure from Coulter and Ollie McClean was on hand to

goal. I t was soon 2-0 as Ed

O’Neill struck his shot into the far comer. Whalley and Braithwaite

replaced Coulter and O’Neill and the veteran striker was perfectly placed to make it 3-0 before the end as Keighley’s shot was saved but Whalley calmly slotted home the rebound. Terry Braithwaite again

praised his men who with out the injured Penman are making up for the loss of their big centre forward with sheer determination. But the manager knows

that S aturday’s trip to Rock Rovers followed by the fixture a t Silsden are must-win games before the Christmas break. Worslhorne Reserves . .4 Rimington Reserves . . .3 RIMINGTON endured a nightmare at Worsthome as the centre of attention defi nitely was focused on the

referee and his decisions. Ben Threlfall started the

goals flowing thanks to Gary Brunskill's strength in the centre of the park. The latter won the ball to play Threlfall through who calmly slotted home. And Gary Haslam then

Rimington, apart from a few missed chances from Threlfall and Matt Gamer. Worsthome dispatched a

penalty when Iain Cza- powski was alleged to have pulled a shirt in the area. The leveller came from a blatant off-side when the referee ignored the linesman and Rimington were bewil dered. The second half saw

Rimington come out with all guns blazing! It did take 30 minutes to find the break-through with Haslam

run only to be mauled in the box by two defenders and the referee bemused everyone again by not awarding a blatant penalty as Rimington created chance after chance but couldn’t kill the game.' Worsthorne counter

attacked and got a leveller once again which appeared to be off-side! The final nail in the cof

fin came when Worsthome strack for the final time to take the lead and the three points. Rimington tried to find

another goal in the final minutes but once again chances went begging from Threlfall, Garner and Haslam. Man-of-the-match Brunskill also hit the post from 25 yards with a solid performance in the centre of midfield.

But Hurst Green keep up the pressure with victory

Hurst Green ..................3 Peel P a rk..........................0 MARK Young scored a hat-trick as Hurst Green overcome a spirited Peel Park side who belied their position near the foot of the East Lancashire League First Division table. The locals dominated the

game for long periods. They had a succession of

first half chances before eventually taking the lead

after 65 minutes. Young opened the scor

substitute Neil Reynolds remonstrated too far and was sent from the technical area, Smith kept his compo sure to beat Horridge and Bridlington were back in the game. Straight from the restart

the ball was pumped back into the Clitheroe box. The danger was cleared, but the referee appeared to spot another dubious infringe ment and awarded the home side a free kick on the edge of the area. This time Jason Jones

saw red for arguing Clitheroe's case and Smith found the back of the net again with a well taken set piece to level the game.

Waddington....................3 WFC Clitheroe................4 WADDINGTON suffered

their first league defeat of the season when they lost to their local rivals. Fighting for every ball

and being solid in every tackle was the order of the day for the Pimlico Road

victors. And WFC’s manager got

exactly what he ordered as Waggon bullied Wadding ton off every ball in every challenge. The villagers started the

brighter of the two teams and had wasted two oppor tunities to open the scoring in the first 10 minutes. At the other end, home

THE Dog Music and Sports Bar met Ozzy Refugees on a very windy morning and came away with a high-scoring win. With the conditions mak

ing it difficult for either team to take control, the Dog scored first mid-way through the first-half with a goal from Nick Lord when he took on two defenders before slotting it home. Shortly after it could

have been two, when the Ozzy Refugees keeper made an acrobatic save from Ross KUminster. And then Kilminster

made it two, with man-of- the-match Lord again tak ing on the defence before passing to his fellow player. The Dog looked in com

plete control a t half-time, with Kenyon yet to make a save. A third goal came quick

ly after the restart when a series of slick passes sent Lord through for his second. Two minutes later and it

was four, with Danny Sharpies getting the ball on the left and curling his effort past the keeper. At this point the

der of the first half, Waddington missed two further chances to score from efforts by Dean and ^ Cane, while Clitheroe should have extended the lead when two of their play ers failed to connect with a ball squared across goal. After the break. Wag

gon's second goal was not long in coming and more pressure and ambition from the visitors provided Geoff Young with a tap that was deflected in by a Wadding ton defender. Waddington pulled a goal

back soon after, with Fletcher scoring from close range, but their joy was short-lived as the visitors increased their lead with only 15 minutes remaining, forcing the home side to push forward. Fletcher ran on to a long

ball over visiting defender Parsons and scored with a well-struck shot. And five minutes later,

Hurs t equalised for Waddington, running on to a headed clearance to strike home from 25 yards. With the game in i t ’s

Clitheroe side looked in complete control but the Ozzy Refugees fought back with two quick goals when the Dog defence were caught napping, and with a third minutes later, the locals looked on the ropes. Lord was away again to

complete his hat-trick before Sharpies scored his second of the game. I t could have been more

Ozzy Refugees centre backs being sent for a professional foul on Sharpies in the clos ing minutes, they managed to keep the I3og at bay.

An early own goal from the Rossendale defence was equalised in a low key first-half, during which several chances were squandered by the home side. A half-time "roasting" was followed by a good sec ond half show, with goals coming from Joel Phelps and Sean Holmes. And super goalkeeping at the end from Peter Richardson preserved the two goal advantage.

IN the face of a biting wind and driving rain, Wolves Under 10s pulled off their best performance of the sea son so far. The first goal came from captain Nathan Mitchell slotting the ball home at the near post. This was followed by a penalty scored by Neil Sharma after he was brought down. And Wolves continued to trouble the Huncoat defence in the second half although they found themselves having to defend a torrent of attacks from Huncoat against the wind. Huncoat pulled one back early on but. Wolves soon went further ahead from a belting 15-yard strike by Tom Reede. The score remained unchanged thanks to solid performanc es from Reuben Hirst and James Sharpies. Wolves continued to attack despite the increasing head wind and heavy pitch and their hard work was eventually rewarded when Jay Hibble took advantage of some skilled passing to give Wolves their fourth goal. Sam Jones was named man- of-the-match for his mid- field performance in the first half and as goalkeeper in the second.

Whallev Juniors

Langho Juniors.............2 DESPITE a heavy pitch and strong winds, these two teams produced a game that was an excellent advert for junior football. With the wind a major factor in their favour, Langho dominated the first half and pinned Whalley in their own area for long periods. I t was no surprise that they took an early lead, and doubled it later. The second half was a different game as Whalley took control and pressed for the goals to get back into the game. The first by Con nor Ripley was an old fash ioned centre forward's goal as he took the ball through the Langho defence brush ing aside tackles before fir ing home. Whalley contin ued to press forward, and the equaliser came as a Langho defender deflected a long throw into his own net.

After three minutes Roefield's James Duerden struck from just inside the box to put the locals into the lead. After seven min utes Roefield scored again following some good build up play with Lewis Bilbie providing a good finish. Roefield kept pushing for ward but failed to convert some good chances, until 15 minutes into the game when they were awarded a free kick. Duerden struck a superb shot into the top left-hand corner. The Pen dle side had the wind behind them in the second half but the Roefield defence was solid. The locals proved dangerous on the break and created lots of chances in front of goal but failed to convert any more.
