Clitheroe 422324 (Editorial), 422323 (Advertising), Burnley 422331 (Classified) 20 Clltheroe Advertiser &Times, Thursday, July 28th, 2005 www.clltheroetoday.co.uk Weekendplifs Castle concert venue

lONE of the biggest live concerts ever to be staged in Clitheroe takes place next weekend. “Off The Wall”, one of the

world’s leading Pink Floyd trib ute shows, is playing a one-off special outdoor show in Clitheroe Castle Grounds next Saturday, August 6th. Following the real band’s per

formance at Live 8, interest worldwide in Pink Floyd has surged to a level not seen for decades. Their first appearance as the original line-up for 24 years, in front of the biggest television audience in history, has reawak ened the Floydian spirit in many older fans, as well as leaving a new generation wanting more? All the band members are top

class musicians who have worked incredibly hard to not just create exact copies of the original songs, but also inject their o\vn energies. Tickets are priced at £20 and

are available from the Clitheroe Tourist Information Centre, by phone on 01200 425566 or online through www.ticketweb.co.uk (tel. 08700 600 100). Concert goers are welcome to

bring their own picnics and drinks, but not in glass bottles. The concert will be held in the

natural amphitheatre below the Castle Keep, so ticket numbers are strictly limited. Those com ing by car are advised to park in the town centre car parks, just a short walk from the venue.

A wine to make you sit up and take notice

HIGH summer and it is the height of the short UK barbecue

season, writes VIC MORRIS While the sun is shining people do not want

to spend precious time nosing around in wine shops, far better to stock up the fridge, and have some red stashed away to accompany those sizzling steaks and sausages. While there is a love affair between the

English and all things Italian, most wine drinkers don’t know where to start with Ital ian wine.

As soon as you move away from wines,

which have become so well-known they are a brand in themselves, such as Valpolicella, Frascati, Soave and Chianti, it all tends to become a bit of a fog. Enter Canaletto - a brand created by

Casa Girelli to bring excellent examples of \vines from all parts of Italy to the consumer in a totally de-mystified way. Canaletto wines come from the far north, to the far south of Italy, bringing the essence

of the region with them in an easy to under stand, straighforvvard way. CANALETTO PRIMA COLLEZIONI

GARGANEGA PINOT GRIGIO is from the Veneto region in the north east of Italy, Iron where much of the ubiquitous Pinot Grigic hails. This is a Pino Grigio to make you sit uf

and take notice. I t is blended with th( indigenous Veneto grape Garganega, whicl brings added floral notes and zinginess to th( finished wine. The grapes are from vineyard sites in th(

northern Veneto, in the foothils of the Alps where the local climate is strongly influencec by Lake Garda, giving cool nights and tem perate days, ideal conditions for the produc tion of excellent fruit quality particularly foi white wines. The Canaletto prima Collezione Gar

ganega Pinot Grigio are on the shelf al Thresher, priced a t £6.49 per bottle.

ten by Rick Stein, he says there are people who have no choice but to work on the ocean in all weathers - our fishermen. Every single day the lives of these 14,000 men are at risk and each month three boats are lost at sea

and 10 fishermen are killed or seriously injured. Overnight, fami lies lose their loved ones and breadwinners and there is one charity there to help them through their tragedy -The Fish ermen’s Mission. As well as Giles, other

contributors are Gary Rhodes, Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall, Richard Corrigan, Brian Turner, Marco Pierre White, Nick Nairn, Aldo Zilli and our own Nigel Haworth, of Northcote Manor. Giles’ recipe is for pot

ted shrimps and it says about him: “Giles Shaw pots brown shrimps for his fishmonger’s shop and gives his tip for making sure the shrimps aren’t too swamped in butter. This is a favpurite British regional dish and the very best form of conven ience food. “Try potted shrimps

stirred into scrambled eggs, or pasta, or simply warmed through and served on toast”. About the North West

the book says: “The coast of North West England includes the 122 square

miles of Morecambe Bay, where cockles and brown shrimps have been har vested in commercial quantities ever since the railways brought large numbers of tourists in the 19th Century. Cockles are also picked further down on the River Dee estuary, and the shrimps caught off Southport are potted in butter and spices, as are the More cambe Bay ones. Fleet wood’s wholesale fish market is where the top end of the trawler’s catch goes to be sold for the fishmongers’ slabs”. The recipes in the book

are organised regionally to give a sense of where fish are landed and of each fishing commmuni- ties. A royalty from the book goes to The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. I t costs £20, but is

beautifully illustrated in both black and white and coloured photographs and is available from Wellgate Fisheries.
