POLICE will be mounting mobile patrols to enforce the speed limit at a number of sites in the Ribble Val ley over the coming week. The sites to be targeted are pub

lished weekly by the Lancashire Road Safety Project in a bid to cut offences of speeding.

These are sites where speeding is

identified as a problem, but monitoring and enforcement could take place on any of the borough’s public highways. The only way to be certain of avoid

ing a fine and penalty points for speed ing is to stay within the speed limit, points out thr project.

The publicised sites are: • A59, Gisbum Road, Gisbum • A59, Longsight Road, Osbalde-

Fantastic choice of k ^ l o u r s

Several members reported on their

visit to the Burnley Camcorder Club the previous week, where they showed the compilation of films which were shown at their Christmas party. Burnley members were very impressed

with the quality of films produced in the Ribble Valley club's first year and said that it had inspired them to be more imaginative in their own productions. The meeting continued with the show

ing of the “Fireside Stories”, which were filmed at the meeting before Christmas. The topics filmed varied from a mono logue and poems to Army tales and memories of childhood skating on the river. Some good film was produced, which highlighted the importance of var ious aspects of multi-camera filming. An important start was the setting up the white balance for each camera to ensure that the colour and light intensity was maintained when shots were mixed from various cameras. Camera and micro phone location was also vital to ensure none was in shot and that the cameras were kept running throughout to ensure that accurate synchronisation was main tained to help in editing. had just completed of a journey of a youth on to Pendle Hill, where he was stranded in the dark and had to camp for the night. Tension built up while he was reading

“The Pendle Witches” by lamplight and hearing noises outside. The punch line was when he saw his

ten t zip being opened and a hand appeared bearing a pizza, ostensibly being sent by his mother. This was a good film with plenty of action and sus pense and good use of sounds and props. The Burnley club is to put on its annu

al film day at Padiham Town Hall on April 9th, which is open to anyone, and starts at 2-30 p.m. running to 1 p.m. Films are invited for showing and it

was suggested that the club enters at least one film, which should be complet ed by March 26th. Members were asked to consider creating films for entry. The next meeting is to be held on Jan

uary 25th at the New Inn, Parson Lane, Clitheroe at 7-30 p.m. Further details can be obtained from Ken Brass on 01200 423169 or e-mail; rvccc@btinter- net.com

REGULARS from a Ribble Valley public house have raised more than £1,500 for the tsunami appeal. The Aspinall Arms, in Mitton, staged a

two-day sales event, which featured a number of stalls selling a wide variety of goods. The items, which were all generously

donated, ranged from toys to exercise equipment. Licensee Simon Forster, who organised

the event, wanted to thank all those that supported the occasion. He said: “I would like to thank everyone

who dropped items off to sell, and my thanks also go to the regulars who worked behind the stalls.” P a r t of the appeal money was also

raised through the brave actions of one of the regulars, who agreed to have his beard shaved off. Mr Dave Duperouzel, from Whalley,

who has not touched his beard for 19 years, let another regular, Mr Brian Cowell, do the honour. Our picture shows some of the regulars

during the fund-raising event at the Aspinall Arms. (A150105/1)
