at the World Trophy and World Masters events held in Ita ly last September, where the England Mountain Running team had enlisted Denise, and from there they have built a solid working partnership. As part of her train

lady over the line and 14th overall in a field of over 1,500, recording a time of 1:14:47. Pichrtova aims to
use the area as a base for six months to a year, and is accompa nied by her husband Michel, who is a National Tr iathlete -Champion, and her ■^father-in-law.
Vic is new captain by Edward Lee
VIC MORRIS is the new captain at Clitheroe Golf Club. A member at the
Clitheroe club for almost three decades, Vic is very much looking forward to his year in office. He “drove in”
alongside lady captain Gill Wightman on Saturday. And afterwards he
said: “I t is a great honour to be asked to be captain at Clitheroe and I am very much looking forward to my year.” He first took up the
sport at the Manchester Golf Club in Middleton and switched his golfing allegiance to the Clitheroe club in 1976. An enthusiastic 18-
handicapper, Vic admits to having won more friends than trophies in his time at the Whalley Road club he has served as social chairman for

be end-to-end stuff until Brandon Garside put Whalley ahead, added a second and aided man of the match Chris Birnie in scoring the third to see the locals take a seemingly unassailable half-time lead. However, it proved to be
all change in the second half, as within five minutes that lead had disappeared as Pendle rattled in three quick goals, before a delightful chip settled the game in the visitors' favour. But this was a good per

Waddinglon Reserves .2 Earby Town Reserves .0 STUBBORN defending and another man-of-the- match performance by keeper Wayne Leach saw the locals come out on top against Earby. Both sides created first
half chances, with Kieron Keough going the closest for Waddington when he hit a post close to the interval. In the second half, good

the rest of the game and looked to have pulled a goal back, but keeper Leach made a stunning save, tipping over a volley from just inside the box. In the final 10 minutes
Peter Crossley came close but his header was well met by the Town keeper. Waddington held out
work from leading scorer Sam Dean enabled his strike partner Mark Har rison to break down the left and cut inside to fire past the keeper. And within minutes
Harrison had made it 2-0 to the locals when he hit a left foot strike into the

Dog face tough test in search for cup glory
FOLLOWING yet anoth er washout last weekend. Dog Inn are hoping that they can win their rescheduled Terry Catter- mole Trophy tie on Sun day against last season’s runners-up Griffins Head. Although they go to
Altham as outsiders, the Budweiser Boys will go into the match on the back of an impressive 6-0 win over Helmshore Har riers in their most recent Harry Dewhurst Memori al League Second Division match. While the Whalley side
are committed to climbing the league table, they are also keen to grasp the opportunity of cup suc cess. Manager Simon Kerins
said: “For the past two years, I have been hon oured to MC the final at Accrington Stanley. “I t would mean even
more to me to lead Dog Inn out for this year’s final. “In fact, it would be the
highlight of all our sport ing lives. “This group of players
would not look out of place playing in the final, but there will be many twists and turns along the way if we are to get there. “Griffins Head will be
tough opponents but, if we believe in ourselves and play to our potential, we are more than capable of beating them to reach the quarter-finals. It is in our hands.”

Clitheroe 422324 (Editorial), 422323 (Advertising), Burnley 422331 (Classified) Blues Eye View
SATURDAY’S disappointing result at Shepshed sees the Blues once again looking over their shoulders at the sides below them, instead of pushing on towards mid- table safety and possible play-off dreams. A quick look at the league table shows how wide
open the league is with Kendal, currently occupying the final play-off berth, only 15 points ahead of Rossendaic, who are in the relegation zone.
• Roccster arc already doomed, so the Blues only have
to worry about the other relegation slot. Glancing at the table again, though, shows that all
teams in the league currently have games in hand on Clitheroc. Goingoul of-all cup competitions early this season
has seen us complete the bulk of our fixtures already. It’s always better to have points on the board at this
stage,‘but a few good results for teams below us could see us sucked into a nervy end to the season. Saturday’s game was made all the more difficult by
injuries to our two main strikers on the day, Lee Crycr and Craig Sargeson. Goalscoring lias been a problem all season: but the lack of service to the front men is making it difficult to create any real chances. Despite showing promising touches since his arrival
at the club, new signing Sargeson is yet to have a single shot at goal, which highlights our current problems. Various players have been approached to try to solve
this problem; but bringing new faces into the club has so far proved difficult, and this must be worrying for manager Paul Byron. Injuries to the two front men could see Gary Jack- son bcingrccalled to the team for Saturday’s game at
home to Woodley. ‘Having played a blinder at Kendal over Christmas,:
he then suffered a dip in form smd was guilty of wast ing chances in subsequent games. However, ivith age and ability on his side, it will only be a matter of time before he finds his touch again,
hopefully (his weekend. Finally, tomorrow night secs Stars in Their Eyes

Clitheroe suffer narrow defeat
North Ribblesdale . . . .27 Clilheroe RUFC .........25 STILL struggling to redis cover their early season form, Clitheroe remain without a win this year. But, once again, they
were tantalisingly close to the victory they need as a confidence boost. There isn’t a whole lot
wrong with the team, they have just lost the winning habit and the rub of the green in the 50-50 deci sions, which don't seem to be in their favour. A perfect playing sur
face and weather condi- tionse made for an open expansive game. Unfortunately, for the
first half at least, it was the Settle outfit who were making all the running. After Nathan Peel had
put Clitheroe ahead with a penalty, the Yorkshire men struck back with a try. That was the story of
C.:-'
the rest of the game, with Clitheroe playing catch-up
rugby, but ju s t running out of time. At least the Littlemoor
coaching staff can be pleased th a t the team have rediscovered how to score tries, fly-half Jim Moody, wingman Simon Coulter, flanker Andy Rigby and centre Peel all crossing the whitewash. But it was not enough,
as the experienced Rib blesdale team were always just out of reach. Disappointingly for
Clitheroe, their set piece work was not of the accus tomed high order, the line outs being a particular problem area. But at least there is a
pattern developing, and playing the game in the opposition’s half has begun to reap dividends. However, a tough
assignment away at Old Bedians on Saturday in the league will be a severe test of resources for the Littlemoor team.
RIBBLESDALE Wanderers hold their bowling section annual on Friday, February 4th in the
clubhouse at 8 p.m. Plans for next season will be discussed, and captains
,. All entry forms for the v '
Michael Humphries Trophy must also be returned to the , Legion at the annual meet- -j"
ing.
will be picked. Following this, on Tuesday, February 22nd, will be the
club’s full annual meeting, incorporating both cricket and bowling clubs. That meeting also commences at 8 D.m. in the club house.
