3.2 The Advertiser will indemnify the Company in respect of all costs, damages or other charges ' incurred in connection wth any actions or claims brought against the Company arising from a breach by the Advertiser of this warranty or otherwise from the publication of the advertisement.


Advertisements 4.1 The Company reserves the right to refuse to publish any advertisement if, in the Company’s Minion, ^ e advertisement fails to comply with the requirements of Condition 3.1 above or the refusal is required in the interest or reader protection, even if the advertisement has been accepted or previously published.


4 Right to Refuse or Amend


4.2 The Company may take any alteration it considers necessary or desirable in an advertisement including the use of standard abbreviations, or change the siting of an advertisement in the relevant publication. 4.3 Mail order advertisements will not be accepted for publication by the Company unless J e Advertiser completes and returns to the Company a Mail Order Guarantee Form, produced by the Newspaper Society, prior to the deadline fo r publication o f the advertisement.

Brawny BMW — power without the corruption

MW happens to be very good at this sort of thing. It has a


recent record of introducing cars that do not at first sit easily on the eye, but the subsequent unveiling of ever more powerful and desirable versions breaks down that initial resistance. It happened with the M5


and the M6 and history repeats itself with the brawniest addition to the I Series line up, the 130i. There will still be many


who remain deterred by the unorthodox lines of the I Series, but quite how many can harbour any lingering antipathy towards the car after a drive is a very differ­ ent question. Until now, the quickest I


Series was the I20d, a fine car, but not the sporting flagship many had hoped for. The I30i changes all that. With the same 3.0-litre Valvetronic engine found in the 630i, the I30i does not want for power. The lightest power plant of its type in the world, this engine does away with conventional throttle butterflies in favour of a complex, electrically-pow-


ered valve lifting system. Constructed from an alu­ minium and magnesium composite, light weight equates to better perfor­ mance, more agile handling and lower fuel consumption and emissions. The 3.0-litre unit punches


well above its weight, knock­ ing out 258 b.h.p. at 6,600 r.p.m. On the road, this translates into a surprising amount of heft. The sprint to 60 m.p.h. from rest will disappear in just six seconds. An electronically-limited top speed of 155 m.p.h. will


be adequate for most needs, and the combined fuel econ­ omy figure of 31.4 m.p.g. is a genuine standout. The Valvetronic engine


complies with the latest Euro IV emissions regula­ tions and features the world’s first electric water pump to cool the engine block for increased efficien­ cy. Six-speed manual gear­ boxes are fitted as standard. BMW claims that a 130i


will lap the Northern Loop of the Nurburgring - the performance benchmark against which all serious


sports cars are judged - in 8 minutes and 35 seconds. That is quite some pace. Several key styling fea­


tures identify the flagship 130i variant. As well as chromed kidney grille slats, there are chunky 17 in. alloy wheels shod with low-profile tyres and twin chromed exhausts at the rear.
