Green means go as lights are stolen
POLICE are appealing for the return of a traffic light head unit, worth £500, stolen from Twitter Lane, Waddington. Thieves took the traffic
light unit, situated near the junction by the village’s temporary car park, on Friday night. The traffic lights had
been placed on the road to warn motorists about the roadworks being carried out in the village. Mr Simon Gilford, local
traffic management officer and managing director for A1 Contractors, said: “Apart from the cost of the unit and inconvenience of
replacing it with another, there is also a major road safety issue. “The unit holds the pro gramme for the traffic light and without that there can be a serious accident. “The property can be of
no use to anyone and if anyone has information about the whereabouts of the unit, they are urged to contact Clitheroe police on 01200 443344, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. “ I am even willing to
give a cash reward of £50 for information leading to the arrest and charging of an offender.”

■ DUE to a production problem, copies of the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times were in short supply last week. We apologise to those who were unable to obtain the newspaper. We do have copies of the Octo ber edition of the Valley, which was free with last week's Advertiser and Times, available at our front counter at 3 King Street, Clitheroe.
They told the Clitheroe Advertis
er and Times that they take their social responsibilities very seriously, encouraging pre-school, primary and secondary school students as well as university students to gain experience of working and socialis ing with the elderly. Groups from as far as Liverpool have links with The Manor House. Picture shows Mr Till presenting

Geared up for next year’s marathon
A WOULD-BE mara thon runner who hails from Hurst Green faced her first test last week end in her bid to com plete next year’s London Marathon. Angela Holden (pic
tured) took part in the “ R u n n in g 4w om en Windsor 8k Race” - her first official race. She has applied to run
in the London Marathon in April 2005, and has also applied for a charity place with Asthma UK and pledged to raise £1,500. In 1997, Angela's
father, John Holden, of Hurst Green, died of emphysema/asthma at the age of 61, having suffered from asthma all his life. Angela has also suf
fered from asthma for the majority of her life and takes daily medica tion, which keeps her asthma under control. Angela lived for most
of her life in Hurst Green and worked for Ribble Valley Borough Council before moving down South to work for South Bucks District Coimcil in 1996. She now lives in Sun-
ningdale, Berkshire and works for Medway Council in Kent as head of members' services and elections. She returns regularly to the Ribble Valley to visit family and friends. Anyone wishing to
sponsor Angela or make a donation towards her fund-raising for Asthma UK should make cheques payable to "Asthma UK" and for ward them c/o Angela Holden, 7 Lynwood Crescent, Sunningdale, Ascot, Berkshire, SL5 OBL. (s)
