A car that has moved the diesel game on. ’

No wonder Autocar magazine preferred the new S-TYPE twin turbo diesel to the BMW 530d and Mercedes E320 Cdi.* Our 2.7 V6 engine delivers outstanding torque, performance and fuel economy; all combined with a more refined ride. "A genuine delight to drive", they said. And it's yours from just £27,670. Contact us for a test drive.

bert and Gordon Pimperton narrowly lost 6-4 in the third set to Burnley’s top pair, but gained revenge in their second match, winning in straight sets. John Leveran and Tom Ormerod found

championship in the Third Division, but by finishing runners-up, secured promo tion. The ladies’ team led their division for

most of the season, but a slight dip in form at the end meant that they had to be satis fied with third place, while the juniors fin ished a-creditable sixth and showed consid erable promise for the future. Perhaps the best performance was by

the opposition a little too hot to handle and were defeated in both their rubbers. But the club can celebrate a terrific sea

son. The A team finished third in the First Division, their best placing for many

years. And the B team finished a very credible

the club's mixed team, which secured the championship in their penultimate match. The team, captained by Richard Lam

bert, has been outstanding all season and the honours were richly deserved. New players are always welcome, and

play will continue during the winter as the club attempts to replicate its success next season.

Workman-like victory

Cllheroe RUFC..........25 Skiplon A ................ - . . . . .0 THIS comfortable work- man-like victory for the town team sets them up nicely for the impending set of league fixtures. Having the luxury of

fielding the same back- line for the second succes sive week, it was no real surprise when a textbook take at the top of a line- out gave the backs some quality balls early on. A superb line run by

young centre-threequar- ter Will Tattersall, sliced through the visitors defence for his second try in as many games. Fly-half Nathan Peel

was true with the conver sion and again a short time later with a penalty.

More pressure from the

home pack, hard rucking and close support play left the ball on a plate for scrum half Dave Watson. A retreating defence

was food and drink for the back line, and it was Peel himself this time making a bee line for the white wash. Unsuccessful with the

extras, he was on target with another penalty to put the Littlemoor men in a comfortable 18-0 lead at the interval. With the match as good

showed a lone try, cour tesy of back row man Ralph Rigby, Peel again on hand with the extras. But this really masks

the lack of composure at times with several gilt edged scoring opportuni ties going begging. At least to their credit

as won Clitheroe never really got out of second gear in the second half. Which was disappoint

ing as there is masses of potential in this current squad and they should be

Chipping out on penalties

AN ENTHRALLING Guildhall Cup match went all the way to penalties, only for Chipping to nar rowly lose 4-3 in the spot- kick lottery.. However, after a difficult
