THE TERMINAL (12A); The Grand Cinema; from tomorrow
VIKTOR NAVORSKI (Tom Hanks) is visiting New York when there is a coup in his Eastern European home land. By the time lie arrives in America, Navorski is stranded with a worthless passport from nowhere and forced to live in the airport terminal until peace returns. After coming to terms with his situation, he becomes quite at home in the terminal and builds friendships with a wide range of people including flight attendant Amelia (Catherine Zeta-Jonos). Based
loo.sely on a true story of an Iranian refugee stranded at a Pans airport, the film is lioth funny and poignant, if a little loo long.

Mikron Theatre Company has been written and directed by Richard Povall, who toured with the company for nine years as an actor and musician. Genial, gentle and good humoured,
with original songs and music, “Pedal Power” takes us back to the 1890s when the bicycle was king of the road and the Clarion Cycling Club was founded, through the war years and into the rac ing days of the ’50s. I t is a moving evocation of a move
ment which was once a way of life for thousands of ordinary men and women and which - though reduced in numbers
- survives to this day. From Sunday club runs to fiercely-fought time trials, cloth caps to helmets and worsted to lycra, “Pedal Power” freewheels down the years with a hundred saddle-sore but laughing Clarionettes. Mikron Theatre Company's four tal
ented actor-musicians - Peter Toon, Mar ianne McNamara, Elizabeth Eves and Robert Took - show their versatility by playing a dozen instruments including cello, violin, flute, euphonium, guitar, trumpet, keyboard and accordion. The “Pedal Power” performance begins
at 7-30 p.m. Tickets at £3 are available on the door. The show is part of Mikron's 23rd
Autumn Tour. For full tour details, ring 01484 843701 or visit the website (
