THE borough council’s new no-nonsense dog warden, Adele Scott, has taken her battle against dog fouling to local schools. The former parole officer vis

ited Whalley Primary School on Tuesday to warn young sters against the dangers of dog fouling in public and to teach them how to clean up after their dogs with the help of her own labrador. Sabre. During the summer, the

council launched a sweeping campaign against irresponsible dog owners who allow their

pets to foul in public. The campaign follows a 30

per cent increase in complaints about dog fouling in Kibble

Valley streets over recent

years. Campaign measures include

threatening to catch the cul prits on CCTV, issue them with a £50 on-the-spot fine and submit their names to the

local press. The “dog awareness” event,

for all 272 pupils at Whalley Primary, was considered a suc cess by head teacher Mr Brian Beresford. He said pupils had reacted

well to the visit and all had an enjoyable day of learning. Our picture shows new dog

warden Adele Scott and her dog. Sabre, with Year 5 pupils Abigail Beckett and Isaac Far- inha. (A121004/2)

A DRIVER wh tempted fate on Friday the 13th failed the drink-drive test by just

one milligram Yet Blackburn magistrates heard that

Paul Hillary would pay a high price for his low reading in both the short and long

term. “He will be paying for the mistake ot

being so narrowly over the limit for many years to come,” said Mr Basil Hearing

(defending). “The inevitable disqualification will be .

an immediate punishment, but the conse quences of this comriction on his insurance will be -with him for many years to come.” Hillary (20), of the Copy Nook Hotel,

Bolton-by-Bowland, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was banned for 12 months and fined £150 with £50 costs. Hillary, who gave a read ing of 81 in blood against the legal limit of 80, agreed to be referred to the drink-drive rehabilitation programme which, if com pleted successfully, would reduce his ban

by three months. Mr Dearing said Hillary had drunk

two pints of beer while out with friends. In the early hours of Friday, August 13th, he had been asked to go and pick someone

up and had been stopped on the way back. He added that Hillary worked as a

plumber and normally drove to work. “He lives some seven miles from

Clitheroe and there is. one bus every two hours,” said Mr Dearirig. ..
