IT has been revealed th a t 60%of households in the UK do not use their
garage to park their car in. This means that there are more than six million garages in the UK storing and protecting junk, while one of the household’s most valuable assets remains parked in the open and vunerable to thieves. Many people leave expensive luxury vehi
cles in the street or on their driveway while old lawnmowers and tins of paint are secure ly locked away inside the garage. I t is a fact th a t cars are rarely stolen from inside garages. Organised gangs have targeted affluent
areas recently and stolen large numbers of high-value vehicles from driveways and roads, often breaking into the houses to steal the car keys first. The RAC Foundation is urging motorists
to lock their cars in garages overnight and to keep both sets of keys separate and secure as an added deterrent. One of the best devices to make garages more easy to use is the auto matic garage door opener. Many motorists are deterred from using their garages because they do not want to get out of their vehicle to open and close the garage door. Remote openers remove the problem, making garages a very useable facility.

about the effectiveness of that single frame front grille - a feature that some wags dubbed “the beard” - it is a styling flourish that you had better get used to. First seen on the A8 and subsequently spread across the A3 Sportback, A6 and now the A4 range, this motif is mirrored on the interior in the design of the steering wheel hub and forms the face of modem Audi. the 101 b.h.p. 1.6, the 130 b.h.p. 2.0- litre, the 113 b.h.p. 1.9 turbo-diesel
and the 161 b.h.p. 2.5-litre V6 turbo diesel and the flagship power plant, the 339 b.h.p. 4.2-litre V8 that power the scorching S4 models. Where the A4 knocks BMW into

black plastics were starting to look a little t(X ) ’90s. The latest model recti fies this, taking many of the design cues from the A8, including more imaginative use of contrasting coloured trims, metal brightwork and electronic fimctionality. Getting in a powerful pre-emptive
strike before the launch of the next- generation 3 Series will do plenty to spike BMW’s guns. Audi looks to have pulled that particular trick off with some elan.
