Ace for John at

par-three 17th CLITHEROE GC member John Whowell took the jackpot on Saturday with a hole in one at the tricky par-three seventeenth. Playing partner Derek McIntyre set

tled for a birdie two a t the the same hole, but the difference in rewards is great. A tight finish saw three pairs finish on

the same 43-point mark, but Garry Thompson and John S. Higson took the first prize after a card play-off. David Heesom and son Chris had to

settle for second place, pushing Jamie White and Mike Tattersall into third. Meanwhile, heavy conditions on Sun

day did not deter Daniel Turner, as he returned an impressive net 68 to win the Gents’ Medal by one shot from Carl Drinkwater and Julian Troup. Captain Ray Ashley had one of his

better rounds to post a nett 73 in Divi sion Two, but had to settle for third prize. Alan Clarke continues to impress, and

not for the first time this season, he fea tured on the winner’s rostrum. His n e t t 70 score gave him second

spot behind a determined David Finney, who produced his best of the year with a two under nett 69. Helen McGinn topped the Silver

Division of the singles stableford at Clitheroe GC when she amassed 35 points. Kriz Baldwin (32) was runner-up

after a card play-off with Marilyn Fletcher. Vicky Edmondson (35) came out on

top in the Bronze Division by four points from Maureen Micklewright. Carol Cherry was third, a point fur ther off the pace.

unavailable, it was down to Jenna Pilkington to go in goal, and for Emma Massey to put in a fine debut showing. However, Fulwood took the lead

with just five minutes gone, with a fine strike from the centre forward. That was the way the game stayed

until the break, before Anna Griffiths ran the full length of the pitch to net a deserved equaliser. Alison Whitwell put in a superb

show and was named player of the match. Anyone wishing to join the club

PRIZE WINNERS: The curtain comes down on the Clitheroe and District Darts and Dominoes Summer League, (s). Ray crowned singles champ

RAY Hargreaves scooped the singles title at the Clithcroc and District Darts and Dominoes Summer League presentation night. ‘ The Buck representative overcame

Anna’s solo effort earns deserved draw

Horse Shoe’s Scott McTear, and was handed his prize at the Swan and Royal. Mick Mercer and Louise Cook of the Black Bull pipped The Swan’s

Barry Cunliffc and Linda Waring to take the doubles prize. And it was an all-Wliite Hart affair

in the trebles final, as the B team overcame their A team counterparts.

Poor run for locals

CLITHEROE endured a poor set of results this week in the Blackburn and District Badminton League. The A, B and C teams all lost their matches. The A team tumbled from second place to fourth

in the First Division when they suffered a 13-3 defeat at the hands of Stanholme A. And in the same league, the B team lost 10-6 to

Westholme’s A side. The C team had the opportunity to retake top

spot at the head of the Third Division a t St Nicholas’, but unfortunately the home side had other ideas. St Nicholas’ dominated the match and only

dropped three games to win 13-3, and as a result have now forced Clitheroe into third place. However, all was not lost for the local sides, as

Salesbury secured top spot in the division after a well-earned 10-6 victory over Abacus B. Back in the First Divison, Brockhall moved to

take second place in the table, after what proved to be a one-sided match against newly-promoted St Philip’s, winning by a 13-3 scoreline In the Fourth Division, Cardinals B team lead

the table after recording a narrow 9-7 win over Roefield A.

But the question of selecting the strongest team

for the Roefield side has yet to be resolved. Details of the forthcoming Handicap Tourna

ments have now been circulated to all clubs and players, and completed entries must be sent into the Hon. Tournament Secretary no later than Sat urday, November 6th.

Two new club records in heats for Dolphins’ gala

CLITHEROE Dolphins held heats for their annual gala recently, and both events were hugely suc cessful, with a staggering 207 personal best times being recorded. Two new record times

by .28 seconds. Thomas Carter recorded

34.54 in the 10 year old boys 50m freestyle, an improvement of .38 sec onds on the record set by Bryn Phillip in 2002. The fastest five swim

mers in each event now gc forward to the finals, that will be held at Ribblesdak Pool on December 4th.
