ilies. Of those women surveyed, less than 1%
N
of respondents said that their partner did most of the shopping and only 32% claimed that it was shared equally. Surpra- ingly, 4% of men (around 920,000) said they did no Christmas shopping at all. For women, shopping seems to be in the
blood, with 41% stating that they don't mind the hustle and bustle of the high street and 37% saying that they enjoyed it. Only 23% admitted that they can't stand
Christmas shopping. Most women are well prepared when it
comes to preparing for the festivities. A staggering 10% of women confess that they do their Christmas shopping all year round. More than half (54%) do their shopping weeks in advance and 20% do it months in advance. Men, on the other hand, are less well prepared - with 30% leaving it to the last minute. Commenting on the research, Matthew
Timms, Lloyds TSB Internet director, said: "Christmas shopping can be a hectic and stressful experience and it seems th a t women are bearing the brunt of this while their partners take a back seat. Many women might well be having to buy their
own gift!" This year, 47% of Britons plan to spend
between £100 and £499 celebrating Christ mas, including presents, food and decora tions. Nearly a third (30%) intend to spend between £500 and £999 while 18% intend to spend more than £1,000 over the
festive period. When it comes to budgeting for Christ
mas, women admit that they do tend to struggle to manage their finances, with nearly half (46%) spending more than - they expect. Cnly 15% set budgets that
they stick to. Mr Timms said: "Budgeting at Christ
mas is very important and using Internet banking services is a good way of getting a quick update at any time, about how your finances are faring. By checking regularly, you can ensure that you don't have a nasty surprise in the New Year." ,

Music, in Moor Lane, has joined forces with the town’s 50 other traders to organ ise a competition for schoolchildren. Pupils from Clitheroe’s primary schools will spend between now and next Thursday, touring the 50 shops to find dice hidden in shop windows. At stake is a cash prize of at least £250. Children can also let their literary imagi
nation run wild by writing a poem entitled: “My favourite shop in Clitheroe.” The town’s Chester Avenue car park,
along with Peel Street and Holden Street car parks are handily situated.
