A WHALLEY school boy is following in the hallowed footsteps of his footballing heroes. Twelve-year-old Leo

Soccer Skills Competition at a Manchester United Roadshow in Blackpool. About 5,000 talented
young players attended a series of these roadshows and residential courses across the UK during 2004.
The 32 winners each
qualified for the Manch ester United Grand Soc cer Skills Final. The event was staged ,
at the club’s famous Cliff Training Ground, where the likes of George Best, Bobby Charlton, David Beckham and Ryan Giggs honed their soccer skills. The day began with a
r;
tour of Old Trafford and a finalists’ photocall with the FA Cup. Later the finalists, all
promising young players, competed in a series of five skills tests. They p u t the players
through th e ir paces in long and short passing, dribbling, shooting and ball control, with the youngsters accumulating
points for each skill to determine the eventual champion. After a hard- fought contest, it was Leo who emerged victorious as the national soccer skills champion. As well as winning an
impressive trophy, he will have his name inscribed on a shield th a t will appear in the Manchester United museum for 25 years. And Leo wasn’t cele
b ratin g alone, as the other part of his prize was a four-day trip for him and his family to the. Dis neyland resort in Paris. His parents, Gary and
Ann, have always encour aged his love of sport and are extremely proud of him. Looking to the future,.
Leo is now a signed player for Preston North End’s Centre of Excellence, where he continues to refine his soccer skills. Leo is pictured with the

land Prospect has become part of the Christmas tradition for the folk of the Ribble Valley. Mr Jack Brunker, the man responsible
for this incredible spectacle, has yet again dazzled the public with a bigger and bet ter display than last year. The self-employed builder, who begins
his masterpiece eight weeks before the annual switch on, has people visiting him from all over the Ribble Valley and
beyond, to gaze in awe at the number of trimmings he has on show.
