www.uuuiurut^iuudy.uu.utL Stolen items were sold by Court Reporter

A LANGHO family re tu rn ed from holiday to find a number of ornaments, including a £2,500 bronze s ta tu e of a girl, had been stolen from their garden. Blackburn magistrates heard

that the statue and other items were eventually sold to a Dar- wen secondhand shop for just £80, despite the “vendors” being given an indication of its

value by the first person they tried to sell it to. Damian Parker (34), of the

Salvation Army Hostel, Heaton Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods. He was remanded on bail until December 22nd after the magistrates ordered the preparation of pre-sentence reports. Miss Charlotte Crane (pros

ecuting) said that as well as the bronze, two stone griffin stat ues and a patio heater had been

stolen from the house. They were later offered for sale at Ribhleton Reclamation by Parker and another man, but the proprietor recognised the statue, which he told the men was worth about £3,000. Mr Michael Singleton

(defending) said initially Park er had been approached by the other man, who is a builder and claimed he had been given the items in payment for some work he had done. He asked Parker to help him

dispose of the items and that was not unusual. “He accepts that he started to he suspicious when told the statue was worth about £3,000,” said Mr Singleton. “He wasn’t happy, but went

along because the opportunity to make some money was too tempting. “When his partner accepted

£80 for something he had been told was worth £3,000 he knew it could not be legitimate,” added Mr Singleton.

dale commented: “The club is very grateful to Booth's Supermarkets for allowing us to collect and to it's generous customers for their very kind sup port. The' public was

extremely generous and any additional funds col-
