Award puts steward’s village club on map!
A STEWARD from the Ribble Val ley is celebrating his success after receiving a national award which puts his village club firmly on the map. Mr John Davies, from Wadding-
ton Village Club, received the “National Steward of the Year Award” by Club Mirror Awards, at an event held at the National Motorcycle Museum, at Solihull. The evening, organised by Trade
magazine, featured a gala dinner hosted by comedian Jim Bowen, with more than 500 guests in atten dance. Mr Davies, who was nominated
by one of his barmaids, Leanne Boothman, was judged by a secret panel, before beating national com petition and reaching the final six. The trained chef, who has been working at the village club for eight years, was delighted that a small place like Waddington has received national recognition. He told the Clitheroe Advertiser
and Times: “This is a great acheivement for the club, especial ly considering its size and the oppo sition it was up against.
No need to be lonely this
Christmas CHRISTMAS is usually thought of as a joyous time when families come together, but it can be painful and lonely for those who have recently experienced the loss of someone close to them. Madeline Adey, the facilitator
of the Cruse Ribble Valley Bereavement Support Group, said: “The joyous sights and sounds of Christmas and the cel ebrations of seemingly 'complete' family life can be unbearable at this time of year, creating desper ately sad memories of happier times. “The greeting card manufac turers have improved their choic es of the more appropriate 'Thinking of you at Christmas' selection and the caring concern of family and friends can help to ease some of the pain. “But the need to talk and
share their feelings with others that have travelled a similar path can often be helpful to get them through this difficult time. “The Cruse Ribble Valley
Bereavement Support Group provides a chance to talk or listen with others who have also suf fered the sorrow of bereavement. “It can offer a better under
standing of the grieving process and a glimpse of the light at the end of the apparently endless tunnel they feel themselves to be in.” The group meets on the second
Thursday of each month and the December meeting will be held tonight, in the Day Hospital (at the rear of Clitheroe Hospital), Chatbum Road, Clitheroe For more information contact

IT was a case of hair one minute and gone the next for brave Chip ping lady Carol Mainwaring, who had her beautiful blonde hair shaved off to raise money for a worthwhile charity. Mrs Mainwaring (pictured)
teamed up with Mrs Janet Wat son, licensee of the Tillotsons Arms in Chipping, and had her head shaved to raise funds for the North West Air Ambulance. Her courageous efforts encour
aged two other locals to get in the spirit of the fund-raising event and one local went one step fur ther and ,had his head, eyebrows and moustache shaved off, while another customer had her hair- shaved off to boost funds for the charity.
In total, the night raised £387,
which was added to £200 donated by members of the Chipping Amateur Dramatic Society and £100 raised during a charity quiz night held at the pub a few weeks ago. Later in the evening a cheque
for £687 was presented to a repre sentative from the air ambulance, who thanked everyone for their outstanding efforts. Pleased with how the event
went, former hairdresser, Mrs Watson, said: “It was a fantastic evening. “The atmosphere was electric
with everyone trying to do their bit for the air ambulance, which has helped rescue thousands of villagers from remote rural areas.”
