A (LOTTO luck has come the way of a rural Ribble Valley hamlet. : ‘-’A.-major cash handout of £181,000 has

estimated a t ’£440,000. As well as hosting dances, the new village venue would provide space for indoor carpet bowls sessions, larger social events, youth clubs and a meeting room. There are also plans for a modem kitchen

and a small bar. Outside there would be a car park, cycle racks, shelter and an outside toilet for, .walkers and cyclists who may visit the .area_ ____ -For more than two years villagers have been’

working on a series of bids to five different agencies, but their plans were brought to a standstill for almost a year following the out break of the foot and mouth disease. However, in June last year the village’s var

ious voluntary groups decided to get together and form a registered charity. The new Tos side Community Link now owns the old insti tute building. Explained Mr Eddie Runswick: “We

thought we would stand a better chance of getting grants if we showed that all the vil lage’s little groups were working together. We have now taken over ownership of the village institute building and all the various groups have a representative on the committee.” The Tosside Community Link has so far

raised £11,000 through a series of small grants to pay for a variety of projects. These include surveys, a consultation exercise with members of the public and technical reports. The cash has also been used for the preparation of a business plan to support the major grant bids. Speaking about the allocation of the lottery

grant,' Mr Richard Frankland, chairman of Tosside Community Link, said: “At last all our hard work has paid off. We are delighted to get this major award.„If all goes well we should be able to match it in March with European funding through the North York shire Partnership and Craven District Coun cil, and with help from three other agencies.” He added th a t contributions from the
