A CEREMONY took place this week putting the village of Whalley in the centre of Lan cashire. The newly-revamped Lancashire

Cycleway, re-opened in a ceremony which took place a t Slaidbum on Tuesday, makes Whalley the place where the two 130-mile circuits, one to the north and one to the south* meet. Schoolchildren joined councillors

and tourism chiefs to mark the re launch of what is heralded as Britain’s most scenically-diverse cycle ride, combining a greater variety of con trasting landscapes and features than any other cycleway in the country. The first official users were a group

of Year 6 pupils from Brennands Endowed Primary School in Slaid bum. They were led along part of the

route by Lancaster-based travel writer Mr Jon Sparks, author of a

Tourism Partnership in conjunction with Lancashire County Council. County Coun. Ward said: "As a

keen cyclist myself, I am delighted that people will have the chance to make the most of the new-look cycle way. “The revised route includes some

new guidebook to the Lancashire Cycleway. Also marking the re-opening was

the presentation of a Lancashire Cycleway information panel to Mr Simon Neal, manager of Slaidburn Youth Hostel, by Mr Anthony Gold-
