Roland Hailwood has been p re s e n te d w i th th e P a u l Harris Fellowship Award by Im m e d ia te P a s t D is t r ic t Governor David Medcalf, his friend for 20 years. At the presentation, Club
President Mr Derek Stuttard listed Mr Hailwood’s contri bution to the community. He is chairman of the local
support group of the Nation al Children's Homes and is a member of Trinity Church, including the Property Com mittee and Pantomime Soci ety. He has been involved in the Magic Eye Scanner Appeal; is a former chairman of Edisford School governors; is Clitheroe Town Crier; a toastmaster; speaker; Radio Lancashire DIY advisor; a member of My tton Fold Golf Club; a grandfather to five; and a p a s t p re s id en t of Clitheroe Rotary Club. Mr Stuttard asked: “How
does he find the time? Does he sleep?”
Mr Medcalf praised th e
amount of time Mr Hailwood had given to Rotary, chairing district committees and lead ing the GSE team to Australia in 2000. He also arranged the visit of the GSE team from Ohio in March. He said Mr Hailwood is “a
t ru ly wonderful man and a deserving re cip ien t of th e award which is not given often by Clitheroe Rotary Club and not normally to one so young. This is th e highes t award Rotary makes to a member.” Our picture shows Mr Hail

Auction mart shares sale
SHARES in Clitheroe Auc tion M a r t were sold for £6.20p each in a special sale on Friday. The mart briefly took on
a Stock Exchange a ir as farmers vied for the 700 shares which came under the hammer. “I t is very heartening
that our customers showed such confidence in the mar ket,” said managing direc tor Mr Robert Parker. The price was a record -
even allowing for inflation, it is a considerable rise on the £1 value a t the time the mart moved to the new complex from Clitheroe. A good outlook is expect-
