SOME youngsters in the Ribble Valley are discovering that winning awards through organised activities is more fun, more rewarding and more streetwise than hanging around the streets. After talking to interested adults and youth workers,
■
groups of young people have joined in a wide range of activities orgariised by Trinity Community Partnership. Encouraged by other
youngsters already involved, they have tried their hands at a range of positive pursuits, rather than simply wandering around in their spare time wondering what to do. This has resulted in them
joining in the winning of awards and certificates for
, personal achievement, completing Army and
Outward-Bound courses, first-aid courses, undergoing DJ training, and for competing in moto-cross, boxing and other sports. John Whitaker, Daniel
Livesey, Tom Men, Kirsty Williamson, Adam Williamson, Rachel Linford, Nadia Scott, Oliver McLean, James Hartlebury, Arron Pepper, Steve Raith, Luke Jeffries, Harriott and Joshua Greenwood, Hayley Place,
Josephine Chatbum, Daniel Guirdham, Keir Slater, Ryan Rigby, Simon Men and Robert Kent have all received
' recognition for their efforts. Five members of Ribble
Valley Youth Theatre have received awards for their performing abilities, and Wayne Gilligan has been : presented [with a certificate of
:uachievement for his moto-^i .cross skills.

Hurst Green................................................... .................1 Rimington......................................................................1 RIMINGTON maintained their unbeaten run in the East Lancashire League First Division, with a hard- earned point at much-improved Hurst Green. The home side had much the better of the first half,
with Barton leading the line well and almost opening the scoring with a delicate chip. They then took the lead on 35 minutes, when a shot
was blocked, with the rebound falling kindly to the striker who fired home. Rimington looked dangerous as they got their pass
ing game going, but had keeper Kershaw to thank for keeping them in the match early in the second half, with a brilliant fingertip save. The visitors then moved McCullough out wide, and
his run and cross to the by-line found Penman, who headed the equaliser off the underside of the bar. With both sides likely to be in title hunt, this was a
much-needed point for Rimington, and one which was richly deserved.

ROYAL British Legion had a great night in the Clitheroe a!nd D is t r ic t Snooker League - with
o u t potting a ball. The Legionnaires had a
bye in the latest round of First Division matches and th a t gave the chasing teams a chance to close the
gap. But neither Talbot B nor
Clitheroe Conservative B made the most of th a t opportunity. Talbot B lost, 10-4 to
Low Moor arid are now four points off the pace, having played a game more than the Legion. And things were even
worse for the Conservative club cueist's a they went down . 12-2 by Waddington A and are now 10 points behind he second-placed team. In the Second Division
things are much tighter in the race for the title. Clitheroe Conservative
A lead the way following their 8-6 win against Waddington B. They are now four points
clear of Low Moor B who lost 8-6 to Talbot A. Catholic Club are the
other club team seriously in the hunt for the division al title. They are a further four
points adrift after their 10- 4 win against Police. But Rimington B cannot
be ruled out of the race as they have two games in hand on the title chasers - against the division’s bot
tom two clubs. RESULTS .... . First Division
