A heartfelt thank you to all who helped out

company, organisation, club, school, care home and individual had put 100 per cent effort into creating an outstanding tableau. ,

Everyone had a

favourite, b u t i t was good to see schools and villages involved andi even Clitheroe Market,* with a tractor-drawn dis-* play turning back th e shopping clock.

And, after the bandsj

majorettes, street collec-J tors, torch-holders andj floats, the evening’s cli-j max was a phenomenal firework display from the illuminated Castle KeepJ Described by many as

the best ever, some' £ 7 ,000-worth of f ire j works exploded over the town and brought teanj to the eyes of Torchlight Committee chairman, Mr Peter Moore . The event had taken

18 months to prepare: The committee is smaQi swollen on the night by numerous volunteers from service organisa4 tions, but the entire Rifr ble Valley owes a great: depth of thanks to all those who have given hours of th e ir time to ensure th a t the Jubilee Torchlight will live on in memories for many years to coma

organise," committee chair man Mr P e te r Moore told civic guests and sponsors assembled in the Clitheroe Mayor’s Parlour on Saturday night. ; "Tonight, i t is nice to be

people without whose help Torchlight would no t go ahead and members of the small committee, through this newspaper, have expressed

. their thanks to all of them. More th an 50 collectors

embarked on their rounds as th e procession began and deposited their takings some three hours later. As ever, Clitheroe Town Council played a major part

in the proceedings, but Ribble Valley Borough Council's sup port too was much appreciat ed, with streets swept clean of debris the following day and the Castle Reid utilised for a two-day extravaganza involv ing fun fair, barbecue, mili tary vehicles and activities. 9 Organisers are still tying

up loose ends and subsequent ly, the winner of the Torch

light programme draw for a meal for two at the Old Post House Hotel will be announced next week.

Age Concern Home & Contents Insurance

LOW COST INSURANCE FORTHE OVER SO’s

Age Concern first became involved in Household insurance in 1982 following requests from older people themselves who thought they weren’t getting a fair deal from existing insurance companies.

It was dear that insurers generally were not meeting the needs of older people, as premiums charged were often beyond their pockets and did not take age, experience and responsibility into account.

In response to this,Age Concern Insurance Services (AC1S) was introduced, and unlike many other insurance providers only insures the over 50s.Age Concern is now one of the largest providers of Household insurance to older people in the country, with over half a million customers.

Affordable Backed by Norwich Union, one of the UK’s leading insurers,Age Concern’s Home and Contents policy provides flexible, high quality cover tailored to your needs. Minimum content cover of £7000 starts from just £20.63 per year. This means that unlike other polities you only pay for the cover

. you need, whether you live in a modest flat or a large house. , " .

Why n o t join th e 10,000 households already insured in th e Lancashire area, and g e t a b e t te r deal from Age Concern.
