A RECYCLING centre that will have a double benefit for the peo ple of Whalley has been opened. • The launch ceremony was per formed by the:Mayor of the Rib ble Valley, Coun. Joyce Holgate,. with an empty Champagne bottle rath er than a full one. I t took
| place at the site of the recycling I facility, next to the Rendezvous nightclub. The new centre was proposed
by the owner of the nightclub, Mr Steven Crompton. He approached
Ribble.Valley-Borough Council with the idea of developing the facility for the use of the whole community from his own system for the disposal of trade waste from his business. - As a result a recycling unit for
bottles and cans is now in opera-: tion and is available for everyone to use.
A bonus for the Ribble Valley • ■
communities is that the recyclable materials will now be taken away free of charge and Mr Crompton will be saving money on waste dis
posal bags. This saving, which Mr Cromp
ton says will be about £500 this year,.will be donated to the Mayor's charities.
Mr Crompton said that he first ■
thought of the idea about four years ago, but a number of diffi culties prevented its implementa
tion. After he found he could install
a contractor's collection bin behind a wall close to the night
club, he had apertures cut in the wall and suitable signs installed.; Mr Peter McGeorge, of Ribble
Valley Borough ' Council, explained that the facility would enable people to improve their environment through recycling. He said: "Mr Crompton's app roach was most welcome and the council is pleased to be involved in partnership in this scheme.
"The people of-Whalley now 1
have a good recycling facility and the council gives full credit to him and his concern for the communi ty in which he has a business." . Our picture shows the Mayor
and Mr Crompton heading the queue to use the new recycling centre at Whalley.

R ESIDENT S in the Ribble Valley have been warned not to approach a p a t ien t who has absconded from a secure psychiatric unit and could be
dangerous. . Albert Oszmianski (39) went
missing from accommodation at Kemple View, Langho, on Fri
day. Police said th a t he does not
have his medication and without it could become aggressive and
should not be approached. . Originating from the Midlands,
Mr Oszmianski (right) also has connections in Morecambe, and police inquiries have been concen trated on those areas. Police are now tre a tin g Mr
Oszmianski as a wanted person. He was made the subject of a hos pital order and sent to Kemple View in June, following a convic tion for wounding with intent.
Kemple View is situated off the
A59 and provides rehabilitation for 64 adults with severe mental health illnesses in four separate units. I t is privately run by Part
nership in Care Ltd. - Mr Oszmianski is the third patient to go missing from the
