on. Maybe the Volkswa­


gen Group is not so hot on originality as Audi’s RS moniker is more familiar to many as a Ford brand. Real car anoraks will also associ­ ate R32 with a rather special Nissan Skyline GTR of the early ‘90s. While the name may


not be hugely exciting, the product most defi­


nitely is. Just when Ford’s Focus RS thought it was getting a


clear run at the premi- um performance hatch­ back sector, Volkswagen has spiked its guns. Granted, the Ford has a rawer, more sporting bias than the unapolo- getically opulent R32 but on pure performance terms there is little to choose between them. The Golf hits 60

The Fusion TDCi is a difficult concept to pin down. A supersized Fiesta would be a simple summary of its appeal, but at £10,665 for the entry-level Fusion 1 and £11,665 for the Fusion 2, you will need to pay a good deal more than an additional 50p to go large, with Fiesta 1.4 TDCi pricing starting at just £9,495.
