consultants. Mother-of-four Mrs
Sheena Byrom (46), of Mitton Road, will take up th e newly-created post of Consultant Mid wife in Public Health for Blackburn, Hyndburn
and Ribble Valley NHS Trust in June. From her base a t
Blackburn's Queen's P a rk Hospital, Mrs Byrom (pictured) will

focus on developing and improving access to local maternity services. She will also be instrumental in producing public health education pack ages for use by midwives and student midwives working in the communi
ty-Mrs Byrom's new job is part of a Government drive to encourage more top and long-serving nurses into senior posi tions within the NHS. Currently, Mrs Byrom
is the Trust's midwifery manager in charge of co ordinating local mid wifery teams, but for 24 years, she worked in delivery suites a t Burn ley's E d ith Watson Maternity Unit, Whal- ley's now closed Bramley Meade and the materni ty unit at Queen's Park. Mrs Byrom, a parent

Ladies' Luncheon Club, dressed in their best, were "brimming" with excitement at welcoming the Duke bf Gloucester to their base at Gis- burn's Stirk House Hotel, and he Repaid the compliment by admit ting he was wowed by their "won derful hats". Yet the Duke's visit had more at stake than fashion. He was there as
