Village venue for next police meeting

GRINDLETON will be hosting the next Police Authority Commu nity Meeting. I t is scheduled to take place at

the village's Methodist church in Chapel Lane at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. At the meeting Chief Supt John

Thompson, the divisional comman der, will talk about policing in the Ribble Valley, and Mr Bill Alker, Ribble Valley Borough Council's Policy Development Officer, will discuss community safety issues.

At the PACM, held in Chipping

on January 23rd, those who attend ed saw a video presentation on the Lancashire Road Safety Project. They also heard from Chief Supt Thompson who explained that lev els of recorded crime in the division had increased due to a new policy being piloted in Lancashire. However, he also said that since

the previous community meeting the divirion had not only seen the lowest rise in crime across the force,

but also had the best detection rata In his presentation Mr Alker,

representing the Valley's Crime Reduction Partnership, focused on community safety in the Ribble

Valley. He explained that a new three-

year strategy to combat local crime and disorder problems was being produced, themes to be tackled included vehicle crime, travelling criminals and road safety, among others.

Agency boss faces a very watery fate as wellies are left hundreds of miles away!

Sabden to find out more about the Countryside Agency-backed lengths- man scheme in Bow- land. The agency has contributed more than £36,000, half the cost, of employing a lengthsman for the last four years to carry out small environ mental projects in rural areas. He helped Sabden

parish lengthsman Mr David Oyston (58) weave willow to form a protection to the badly- eroded banks of th e

brook. Mr Cameron spent

the day in the area tak ing a closer look a t a number of projects which the Countryside Agency has been back

is reasonable when this type of tragic incident occurs, to determine that there are not other potential problems of the same type in the locali ty."

Mrs Webb had told

Extension to aid disabled youngster

A SEVEN-NAME peti tion and two letters of objection did not deter councillors approving plans to build at a single- st'orey extension a t a house in Victoria Street, Clitheroe to create a dis abled facility for a child. One resident of West

As well as calling for the exten sion to be scaled back, he urged members to recon sider the application.' However, Coun. Howel Jones (Clitheroe) said

the fact that the proposal was only single-storey made some of the objec

the plan on condition! that permission to install windows in the.extension would be needed-front the council.
