Darters’ winning double

LITHEROE men’s town, team hosted

— , Hey wood in the Lancashire Darts Super

League on Sunday. Jimmy Hargreaves started

the ball rolling for the locals with a fine 3-1 win, averaging 60.73. However, Mick Duxbury (54.24) and Ray Hargreaves (59.21) found their opponents too hot to handle and both tasted

defeat. Clitheroe’s next four play

ers all excelled and dominated their respective opponents to give the host side a command

ing 5-2 lead. Top of the tree was Mal

colm Taylor with a fine aver age of 79.10 while Dominick Doyle (72.49), Andy Porter (62.62) and Joe Marsden (51.12) performed well. Peter Taylor was surpris

ingly beaten despite averag ing 73.23 while Reece Jeffries (61.43) restored his team’s three-game advantage with a narrow 3-2 win to seal victory. Heywood did pull the final

game back as skipper Barry Cunliffe (63.39) lost to make the final score read 6-4 to

Clitheroe. Later on in the evening/

Clitheroe Ladies broke their duck, winning their fii st game of the season 5-3. The successful darters were

Irene Seed, Judith Cunliffe, Lena Brooks, Linda Waring

and Daphne Heap. Cilia Aspinall, Audrey

Southwell and Sally Slater were narrowly beaten.

won the latest heat of

the Professional's Win ter Series at Myt ton

Fold Golf Club. He compiled 44 stable-

ford points on Saturday and triumphed by just one point from Kevin Shanley and Richard Greaves. Hindle’s latest success

sees him safely ensconced at the top of the Order of Merit ratings.

Fightback in vain

Clitheroe ......................^ North Manchester ....37

A TY P IC A L Clitheroe performance resulted in an all too familiar result at

Littlemoor on Saturday. The locals took the lead,

then allowed the visitors to build up a healthy advantage before staging a tremendous fight-back only to throw the game away in the final 10

minutes. With conditions under foot

heavy, fitness was the telling factor as North Manchester scored three converted tries during the closing stages to claim the two league points. The late withdrawal of two

players forced Clitheroe to call upon Chris Stott an“ James Dickenson, and both acquitted themselves well. Stott combined with his

younger brother Chris in the centre. They posed a threat all afternoon and were rewarded with a touchdown apiece. Stott junior opened the

scoring for the locals while the older Stott raced fully 80

yards to notch his score. Dickenson tackled well for

sion which came his way. On the opposite flank, Phil

Parker made one excellent burst midway through the second half, and ran with aggression and pace at every

opportunity. In the forwards, burly prop

Matt Dugdale had his best game in Clitheroe colours, plugging the gap left by the departure of Mike Wilyman. He was well-supported by
