Tool firm is powering ahead in new location
A LEADING supplier of tools and ironmon gery to tradesmen has relocated to cope with
growing demand. Top stockist Barnes of
Barrowford was established in 1959 at a single shop in Gisbum Road, Barrowford. At that time, the company
dealt mainly in traditional ironmongery, household goods and pink paraffin. But over the years,
founders Brian and Hazel Barnes continued to expand the business. They snapped up properties at either side of the original shop as the busi ness's growing reputation caused demand to grow year

after year. Now, with four decades of

experience under their belts, the Barnes family has moved the business to a new, pur pose-built warehouse at Hodge Bank Business Park in Reedyford Road - and they no longer live above the
shop! Located next to East Lan
cashire's major motorway and a stone's throw away from main A-roads, it means that Barnes of Barrowford
could not be any better placed to reach than it is now. The Nelson site was the

Barrowford, as further expan sion at the Gisbum Road premises was not possible. A steady increase in customer demand, constant supplier support and a great deal of employee participation also combined to ensure the move became a reality. But although the business
has an impressive new base, Barnes of Barrowford will remain a family-run business. Brian's son, Daryll, says: "The tool warehouse will con
tinue to provide the personal, friendly, professional service it always has done, although it now has the added advantage of offering customers the facilities to see machines in operation before a purchase is
made." An in-house spares and
repairs department comple ments the massive power tool section. There is also a hand tool display stretching for 50 metres inside the new build
ing. And while the tool side of
the business has come on leaps and bounds since those
early days, the ironmongery range has also grown and now offers everything a person could need for domestic or industrial use. Household goods —
from
paints to ladders - are also available at Barnes of Bar rowford, a veritable trades man's treasure trove. Safety wear is available too, offering protection from head to foot to the discerning workman. And if ferrying the goods
