Brother and sister dance stars are waltzing on water for dream cruise

RIBBLE VALLEY based brother and sis ter dance champions Stewart and Andrea Naim are taking to the high seas. They have danced in

many places, but never off dry land. The two are spending seven days on the Air-,

tours cruise shop MS Sundream, demonstrat ing their wide range of dances every night on the passage from Madeira to

Grenada. "It's a rather unusual

way of working your pas sage - the trip is free, because I work for Air- tours. But we cannot be paid, due to our amateur status," says Mr Naim

yet you do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father, why then do you say 'Show us the Father?' Do you believe me Philip, that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me?" Jesus said to his disciples: "The

words that I have spoken to you do not come from me. The Father who remains in me does his own work." With hindsight, there is nothing

in our Lord's words that we find strange, but hearing them for the first time, the disciples must have found them breathtaking and hard to take in. It was Thomas,.the one who was apt to doubt and. ask searching questions who bluntly asked: "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know

information like this, we might never have had the benefit of these words of Jesus being recorded by John. Thomas put into words what was puzzling the others and, by his questions, gave Jesus the opportu nity to clarify His message. Being slow to accept new ideas, Thomas asked -questions which Jesus answered and put us all in debt to Thomas by the enlightenment they

drew forth. As he pondered over the words of

Jesus, prompted by Philip, Thomas like the others would be over whelmed by his thoughts. However, on being told of the first re-appear ance of Jesus on that first Easter Sunday evening when he had not been present, his re-action was typ ical of him, as he stated that unless he actually saw the nail marks and

put his hand in the wound in the side of Jesus, he would not believe. When, in his presence, our Lord appeared yet again, the response of Thomas was immediate for he cried out: "My Lord and my God.” To accept anyone as God was a

tremendqus undertaking, but once Thomas was convinced, he doubt- ed no longer. In past days we may each one of

us have known moments of mysti fication and doubt, - but,, like Thomas, in the face of the pre served recorded facts we can note the words of Jesus and joyfully accept the truth, to instinctively say together the first Christian creed. . . "Jesus is Lordl"..

Chernobyl's Children group has organised its final fund raising push of the year with a week of activities. The programme starts on

November 14th with a craft and gift fair at Clitheroe Parish Church. A talk by Barbara Bingham on "Highlights of Peru" will fol low on November 19th, again in the parish hall. Tickets are available from the parish office or on the door, priced £1. The final event will be a

The cost of entering is £3 per person, including supper. Cash prizes will be awarded on the night and tickets are available from Maureen Holt (01200 427361) or Toni O'Donnell (01200

Cambien decided to send copies of the newspaper cuttings, and his letter to the Advertiser and Times to the Queen Mother herself and was delighted when, only nine days after publication, he received a reply from her lady-in-waiting. It said that the Queen Mother was

interested to read the snippets taken from the Daily Telegraph and that she was "very touched by the senti ments expressed by that newspaper

with those he has written to other stars, including Norman Wisdom, Sir Richard Attenborough, Jimmy Edwards, Harry Secombe, Max Bygraves and Sir Laurence Olivier, to name but a few.

TIGHT-FISTED tea rooms and calculating cafes drive mq mad, writes Ben

Carlish.i Having enjoyed a morn

ing driving around our beautiful valley with my Londonner father-in-law, we joined our 'ladies,' who had been out shopping, in a cer tain cafe that will remain

nameless. My wife and mother-in-

law were drinking some fine- smelling coffee from an ample-sized cafetiere. There was enough coffee left in it to make a sloth on tranquil lisers beat the land speed record. So we thought an extra couple of cups, to allow us to partake in the contents of their cafetiere, would not be too much to

ask. But apparently it was.

An embarrassed-looking waitress

explained to us that it was not company policy to pro

vide more than two cups for a two-person cafetiere. If we wanted two more cups we would have to have another cafetiere. And how many cups of coffee is one sup posed to decant from a two- person cafetiere? Eight according to the specifica tions of the manufacturer who makes the vessels in question - and we are not talking thimble-sized espresso cups here. Now call me petty, but four cups of the dark stuff at one sitting would make even the hardi est of coffee junkies' hair curl and eyes twitch. In defiance of such a nig

of the law is hot necessary, as the magistrates are given help and advice by the court clerk, but Mr Jagger has gained an insight into many areas of the law through his job at Ribble Valley Bor

becoming a magistrate takes about a year and, after having his application seconded by a sponsor, Mr Jagger had to submit'details of his background and be interviewed by other quali fied magistrates. The final decision rested with Lan cashire County Council and the Duchy of Lancaster. Once he has completed
