Winning run ends with blank week

AFTER a run of five straight victories the last thing Clitheroe boss Steve Parry wants is a free Saturday — that’s just what he’s got this

weekend. With Vauxhall GM in FA Vase
action Clitheroe will be left kick
ing their heels. “I ’m trying hard to sort some
thing out to get us all together, Parry said. “There’s a chance we could play a friendly. “We just want to keep playing
and keep the run together - we don’t want to lose the rhythm.” Clitheroe have now win their last
five games, making progress in the Floodlit Cup, the League Cup and beating North Western Trains League leaders Kidsgrove along the
way.“To be honest I ’m not really looking at the league. All I want is to make sure we keep the run
going,” Parry said. “As long as we don’t get beaten

Clitheroe............. ...........3 Kidsgrove Ath le tic......1 THE Blues’ renaissance continued in style on Sat urday when they over came table-topping Kids grove at Shawbridge with their best display of the
season so far. The 3-1 scoreline doesn’t
do justice to just how close
the game was. Even though Clitheroe
took a three-goal lead and Kidsgrove’s late effort was little more than a consola tion, the visitors were never really out of the game. In fact the game was bal anced on a knife-edge for
almost an hour. I t was only Kidsgrove’s

bottom in the Second Division of the North Western Trains League you would have expected a more comfort
able win.But Clitheroe made several changes to the side which beat Clitheroe, some
enforced and some not. That they managed to overcome that and win the game was enough for
the Clitheroe faithful. There were just 13 minutes on the
clock when the first goal came. John Holding picked up where he
and awarded a penalty. Wing-wizard Dennis Hill stepped
up and fired the spot-kick low to keep er Wayne Shepherd’s right and into
the back of the net. Ten minutes later it was 2-0 after
Dave Gardner cut in from the right but saw his cross deflected into the air. I t fell nicely for midfield general Andy Rouine who fired it past the
keeper on the volley. • After that Clitheroe fell apart a lit tle and looked to lose their concentra

Clitheroe players were happy to have a crack from long-range rather than
patiently build chances. Either side of half-time Oldham
