their souls. One such new Christian confided in a
more mature Chrisitian friend: “I don’t know what’s the matter with me. I was really on the heights with the Lord yesterday, with a great sense of peace and joy. I really thought that I was secure in the faith. How ever, today I am sad and down-cast and seem to have lost the certainties I had. Tell me, what is happening to me? I cannot understand it.”

rejoiced to have been so inspired to meet the situation. That inspiration came from the One who helps us so often in difficult times. The days come and go with their

Ellis, of Alderford Close, Clitheroe. Christine (47) was first diagnosed as suffering from colon cancer in March, 1995. She is thankful th a t her GP was supportive, but she desperately felt the need to talk to other people locally who had faced a similar situa

“There is a mutual bond. You can draw strength just by talking to oth ers who have gone through the same experience. Yet I could not find any local support group which provided this kind of help.”
To remedy the situation, Christine . .
has now decided to form her own group. Membership Is open to any one in the Ribble Valley, young or old, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. I t is also open to cancer patients’ families and friends. “I t is not an easy time for anyone

another and so, for this reason, does not want meetings to merely become
fund-raising events or to take on the mantle of lectures from health spe
cialists. Christine, who spent 15 years work
ing as an assistant in the town centre dress shop, Peter Harrison’s (now Classic Collections), explained: “I don’t want anybody suffering from cancer to be put off from joining the group. If anyone with the disease feels they could benefit from a friend ly chat with fellow patients, then I would like to hear from them.” To get her group off the ground,
