ACH individual has their own natural hair colour and yet often we want to

change the way we look and change other people's percep

tions of how" we look. Along the supermarket shelves there are a wide variety of colours for you to choose, but the only guide as to the shade you may be selecting is a pic ture on the front of the box. The result is often, not the same as the picture, which has influ enced you initially. It is best for you to seek profes sional advice in order that a suitable product and shade are used to achieve the desired

effect. When selecting a colour, there .

are a number of things to con

sider: • skin tone. • eye colour. • the amount of white or grey hair which is present.

• the natural colour of the hair. • the amount of re-growth area present.

• the section of tone to be added to the hair, e.g. ash, copper, red, golden blonde, mahogany, plum, etc.

Not all colours will covergrey hair so it is best to consult a pro fessional hairdresser if you are selecting a colour for this pur

change shades each dme you shampoo your hair. .. Semi-permanent colours - which last up to between six and eight shampoos. Again this type of colour means there is no total commitment to colour and you can change your colour, regularly if you wish. Semi colours leave no visible re growth area as they are gradual ly shampooed, out of the hair. Semi colours do not cover grey

or white hair. :

Quasi colours — which last between 12 and 18 shampoos (this varies from manufacturer to manufacturer). This type of colour does give some coverage on grey hair, but cannot guaran tee to cover 100% of grey or white hair. These types of colours do con-- tain a -very low strength of hydrogen peroxide. The colour gradually fades each time the hair is shampooed and some quasi colours can leave a small

re-growth area. Permanent colours - these types of colours last until they grow out of the hair, or cut out of the hair. Permanent colours do leave a re-growth area as they are used in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide. Permanent colours can cover white or grey hair. Permanent colours can be used to highlight or lowjight the hair and also for partial and full head colouring. Professional permanent hair colours contain products which help to maintain the condition of the hair. As we are now entering into the autumn season the colours which will be predominant this season will be golds, coppers, reds, auburn and mahogany colours.'
