"I started to learn boxing but I kept getting a good hiding," he joked. "I then went into judo and karate." The Padiham club was set up six years ago and is now one of .1,000 clubs affiliated to the British Budo Federation. Karate, ju-jitsu, kick-boxing, idadio (swords) and kydo (archery) .are all taught to var ious levels. The club is now keen on set ting up a course just for women. "In this day and age, women should know how to defend themselves," said Amos. "We teach them what to do, how to do it and when to use it." New members or anyone interested in learning more about martial arts should call into any of the club's ses sions. '
