and a top speed of 145 m.p.h., figures which emulate the performance of the T4's track cousin, the successful S40 BTCC racer. The combined fuel con sumption figure of 29.72 m.p.g. shows that Volvo has achieved the balance of first class sporting per formance with more than acceptable fuel economy.
The T4's chassis is tuned for handling. It has inde pendent front and rear suspension with two set tings (sport/comfort) and fast rack, and pinion power assisted steering. The latest generation of
anti-lock braking is fitted as standard, with the addition of Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) which ensures maximum
braking efficiency of all four wheels. There are six versions of
the car: three S40 T4s and three V40 T4s. Each range starts with a plat form car, with SE and CD versions also available On-the-road prices for
the S40 start at £20,125 and for the V40 at £20,875.
