A CLITHEROE man who preached in more than 80
churches in the Ribble Valley and Eas t Lancashire has
died, aged 87. Mr William James Holliday, also
known as Billy, started preaching in his early twenties and took his last service five years ago. Born in Clitheroe, Mr Holliday
and his family moved to Bolton- by-Bowland before he was one year old. He attended school in the village and was in the church
choir. The family moved to Low Moor
when he was nine and he la te r attended the National School. Mr Holliday lived th e re with his mother and two sisters until he married Miss Nora Fell in 1934. He served his time as a cabinet- .

CLITHEROE MAYOR Conn. Stephen Holt added some more exotic names to the town’s visitors’ book when Clitheroe Rotary Club brought a party of guests from Indonesia to visit him. The group comes from the Java area and is mak
ing the return leg of a Rotary exchange visit which has already seen a party of members from Lancashire

p ra y e r 'g ro u p for the Overseas Missionary Fe llowsh ip , which works in South-East Asia. He was also a founder member of the United Christian Fellowship and was secretary for 30 years. His daughter, Miss Glenys Hol
liday, said: “He was a devout Christian, living out his faith by his actions. He counselled and helped many in th e ir Christian faith.” • Mr Holliday enjoyed walking in
