known characters, World W a r I v e t e r a n Mr Robert Cross, of Church Street, has died in hospi tal, aged 84. “Bob” , as he was popu
larly known, was employ ed by the former Fylde
, Water Board for many •years until his retirement and his wife pre-deceased him a few. years ago. His funeral was pre
ceded by a service in St Andrew’s Parish Church, at which the Rector, the Rev. G. H. Gaze, offici ated. Mr C ro s s was a member of the Hodder
. Valley branch o f the Royal British Legion, and the standard, carried b y . Mr D. B. Bond, preceded the cortege. An escort was provided by members of the Legion. Another of his great in
terests was Slaidburn Silver . Band,' which he would often accompany, and “ Last Post” was sounded at the graveside by bandsman Mr C. Skel- lorn.

School was the venue for Waddington Mothers’ and Toddlers’ Group, which was attended by 14 young mothers and their chil dren. The toddlers made the
most of the toys and plenty of space in which

vided by committee mem bers who had canvassed villagers for donations and were delighted with the response.
