Susie Dent will be baffling audiences at The Courtyard this November with the surreal origins of words.
Audiences are invited to take a journey into the curious, unexpected and downright surreal origins of the words we use every day. Lexicographer, Susie Dent, will retell the adventures that lie hidden within words such as lasagne, bugbear and explain oddities such as the silent h in ghost. Why have words such as kempt, gormful and ruly mysteriously disappeared over time or why words such as scurryfunge aren’t commonplace?
Alongside the series of forgotten words, you should hear a selection of funniest moments, from her 30 years on Countdown and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. As well as some startling results from eavesdropping on a group of waiters.

Crown Ballet presents one of Tchaikovsky’s best works, Swan Lake, at The Courtyard this Christmas. Featuring some of ballet’s most memorable music and breath-taking dance.
Swan Lake is a tale of two young women, Odette and Odile, who resemble each other so strikingly, one can easily be mistaken for the other.
It is a compelling legend of a tragic romance in which a princess, Odette, is turned into a swan by an evil curse. Prince Siegfried chances upon a flock of swans while out hunting. When one of the swans turns into a beautiful young woman he is instantly captivated: will his love prove strong enough to break the evil spell that she is under?
