‘STYLE FOR’ MARCH NEW YORK, NEW YORK! !

MACY’S NEW YORK

In 1904, bar shoes became known as Mary Janes when the Brown Shoe Company named their heels after the mischievous cartoon character Buster Brown and his sweetheart Mary Jane. Now a fashion classic, particularly in New York and a favourite of New York style queen, Carrie Bradshaw. This year they are making a big splash in Michael Kors.

Or go for my favourites, pictured opposite, buckled Mary Jane straps on Alaïa's pumps extend to the ankles, creating a sculptural and elongated shape. Made in Italy from glossy patent-leather in timeless black, they have sleek pointed toes and slender 90mm heels.

For running around the streets of New York, these Gucci’s are a must and can be paired with anything.

This month it’s an extra special ‘Style For’ feature from the most famous place in the world for fashion lovers with the biggest glamour! I headed to the BIG APPLE for an extra loaded style bonanza. As Alicia Keys coined the lyrics ‘.. concrete jungle where dreams are made of, these lights will inspire you’, this month it’s the ‘fashion jungle where dreams are made of, these clothes will inspire you’.

I’ve written about pink in several features, predicting another colour explosion would take its domain. But it hasn’t! It is still everywhere. The shop windows are dressed in rose hues from head to toe – not just because it was Valentine’s month either, the seasonal rails are laden with it. Valentino in particular worshipping the colour of luuurve. Splashes of metallic shoes shone off the shelves. But I have noticed that in each following season the bling tries to outdo the last. From dresses to bags it is all about the glitter, and the glitterati. From Versace to Fendi, Ralph Lauren to Gucci. In NY the shoe and bag departments were thrice our size, leaving my mouth agape (and my credit cards maxed out).

A big trend in the designers is changeable straps in bags. They are in many of the stores.
