North America's industrial lifting equipment magazine
Moving forward T
he US overhead crane industry continues to navigate a market shaped by opportunity and uncertainty. Reshoring, manufacturing, investment, infrastructure development and the growing adoption of automation are creating fresh opportunities, while tariffs, material costs, skills shortages and wider
economic pressures continue to test the sectors resilience. As businesses look for smart and more efficient ways to lift materials, cranes are playing an increasingly important role in the next phase of industrial growth. In this issue, we explore the developments shaping the US lifting market, from innovative equipment and applications to the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. Often referred to as ‘the last frontier’, this edition’s state focus takes a look at Alaska, as we examine the unique
nature of the state’s industrial base and how, despite its many opportunities for growth, the overhead crane sector is a tough one to break into. On page 44, we explore the potential for growth that lie ahead and the best route to navigating the state’s distinctive conditions. With aerospace manufacturing and space programmes expanding rapidly, it’s not surprising that demand for advanced overhead lifting solutions is growing rapidly in turn. On page 70, we take a look at how the overhead lifting industry is supporting the safe and precise handling of aircraft components and engines while the sector faces rapid development. In light of the recent boost in US manufacturing, warehousing and critical infrastructure investment, in part due
to the emphasis on US-based manufacturing, the overhead crane industry is seeing significant growth to meet the rising demand for modern lifting solutions. On page 78, Myra Pinkham explores how investment and reshoring is reshaping the market and the current challenges facing the industry. As always, I hope this issue provides useful insight into the trends, technologies and people driving the industry forward.
