New wind energy installations and repowering in Europe – 2022 in figures
Europe now has 255GW of installed wind capacity – 230GW from onshore and 30GW offshore.
14% of the EU and UK electricity demand is made up from onshore wind, and 3% from offshore wind.
Europe installed approximately 19.1GW of new wind power capacity in 2022, up 4% on 2021.
16.1GW of new installations were in the EU.
European investment in new wind farms fell in 2022, with only €17bn of new investments announced, covering 12GW of new capacity that will be built this year and beyond.
This was less than half of the amount invested in 2021. 16.7GW
