Company insight
Key factors behind the success Several factors contribute to Navantia’s success in cruise ship repairs. Firstly, the company benefits from excellent facilities in the Bay of Cadiz, a mild year-round climate, and an ideal geographical location between Mediterranean and Caribbean routes, which minimises deviation costs for vessels operating in these regions. However, the human element is just as crucial. Navantia works closely with clients, adopting a collaborative approach to problem-solving. The company is known for its honesty, professionalism, attentiveness to clients’ needs and reliability. Transparency on both sides plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of cruise ship docking and refit projects.
Navantia continuously enhances its production processes, both internally and externally. Depending on the complexity of the project, dedicated project teams begin planning and budgeting months in advance of a vessel’s arrival. Through ongoing communication with clients, Navantia provides updates on any variations that could impact the final project scope.
Ship repair facilities Navantia’s ship repair and refit facilities in the Bay of Cadiz include two shipyards with extensive docking capacity. These facilities support a wide range of repairs and revitalisation projects for vessels of all sizes, including access to the largest dry dock in Europe, where some of the world’s biggest cruise ships have been serviced in recent years.
to 4,000A at 440V 60Hz, a firefighting system, and a saltwater supply of up to 1,300m³/hour at nine bar. Furthermore, Navantia’s Ferrol Estuary facility serves as an ideal alternative for medium and smaller-sized cruise ships or shorter-duration projects. This location offers cruise operators in northern Europe the same expertise, quality and technical capabilities as Navantia’s Cadiz
“A signifi cant milestone for Navantia is the scheduled arrival of Allure of the Seas at the Cadiz shipyard in the fi rst quarter of 2025 for a major docking and revitalisation project.”
Specifically, the Navantia Cadiz Shipyard, which specialises in the maintenance, repair and modernisation of mega cruise ships, boasts one of the largest repair docks in Europe. It can accommodate vessels up to 370x60m (with extensions up to 386x66m and 440,000 DWT). The shipyard also features more than 3,000m of smooth quay with a 9m draft, capable of handling large vessels. Additional infrastructure includes a 400t/day wastewater treatment plant, an electrical supply capacity of up
operations, with less deviation from their commercial routes. Finally, Navantia has opened an office in Miami to strengthen collaboration with cruise operators. This office enables Navantia’s technicians to participate in work definition processes at the point of origin and expand the scope of repair services offered to this segment of the maritime industry. ●
