Summer Exhibition 2023 13 June – 20 August Royal Academy of Arts
British artist and Royal Academician David Remfry has coordinated the 255th Summer Exhibition that explores the theme ‘Only Connect’. Some 1,200 works have been selected to go on display for this year’s event, by members of the Summer Exhibition Committee, including Peter Barber who explores the theme by focusing on the hand-made within the design process.

Herzog & de Meuron 14 July — 15 October Royal Academy of Arts
This exhibition looks at a selection of works from cutting edge design Swiss architecture practice Herzog & de Meuron. On display are a selection of projects, both complete and still in the works. Using film and digital experiences, models, material samples and prototypes, the showcase invites us to explore the perception and experience of architecture and its surrounding contexts.

Ai Weiwei: Making Sense Until 30 July Design Museum, London
Now in its final weeks, this is Ai Weiwei’s first exhibition to focus on design and architecture and his biggest UK show in eight years. The exhibition features work never shown before in the UK, as well as major new pieces displayed for the very first time. Large-scale works are also installed outside of the exhibition gallery, in the museum’s free-to-enter spaces, as well as outside the building.

La Biennale di Venezia, 18th International Architecture Exhibition 20 May – 26 November Venice, Italy
Venice is the destination for the next edition of the Italy’s famous Biennale series. Titled ‘The Laboratory of the Future’, 89 participants respond to various briefs. There is a strong emphasis on diversity and sustainability, with organisers of the event challenging the roles of architects, architecture and the practices that form them.

After Impressionism: Inventing Modern Art Until 13 August The National Gallery
Some 100 paintings and sculptures are on display at the National Gallery, including some of the most important works created between 1886–1914, from the likes of Cezanne, Van Gogh, Rodin and Picasso. While celebrating Paris as the international artistic capital, it also focuses on the often revolutionary artistic developments occurring in other European cities during this period.
